Woeful, absolutely woeful, on what's still a good batting pitch. Peiris and Jayasuriya put a lot of deliveries in the right place, but were in no way venomous. Just good bowling backed up by good fielding and greatly aided by atrocious batting.
The only NZ player worth his place is O'Rourke. Maybe Latham and Ravindra (but if they fail again in the 2nd dig, they're gone too).

Cricket administration is a joke.OomStruisbaai wrote: Sat Sep 28, 2024 6:00 amAgree. And it's not that we don't have great young talent. Have you had a deep look at the Sharks URC squad. Lots of merited represented players. You don't attract young players unless your senior side is successful. And that's where representation becomes easier. Cricket really hasn't got it right. I have found Cricket bats being sold by the coaches of the Township teams that they received as sponsorship deals. It's a complete cock up

Bangers v India...
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/art ... 78y3z2n8loIt was India's aggression with the bat which took the headlines - their first 50 came off just three overs, and beat their record in both one-day and T20 cricket.

Root is now the highest English runscorer in Test history.
Also, I've been following the Pakistan Test via cricinfo and a question came up in the live reporting - how far would a fielder run in a Test match? I've no idea, but it sounds like Root and Brook are keeping the boundary riders busy. It's baking hot out there and chasing a ball for 6 hours is going to be taxing. Wicket Keeping must be shattering.

Has to have really pissed someone off at some stage, it’s astonishing. This pitch is doing absolutely nothing. It’s beyond flat. It’s not a great advert for the game. Bowl or bat until you’re so knackered you can’t do it anymore. Repeat for 5 days.
I wonder if there was more to last winter when Dawson played T20 in SA rather than tour. A lot was said to bump up Hartley and Bashir but that sounded like PR tbh.Paddington Bear wrote: Wed Oct 09, 2024 9:27 amHas to have really pissed someone off at some stage, it’s astonishing. He'll definitely overtake everyone apart from Tendulkar. Whether he overtakes him is down to how long he plays - would take four years on current form I think.
And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?
I hope England can bat for at least another day - 800/6 sounds great and will teach them for delivering such a pitch. If Pakistan default due to having no fit bowlers left, even better.ScarfaceClaw wrote: Wed Oct 09, 2024 9:59 am This pitch is doing absolutely nothing. It’s beyond flat. 250+ lead by tea. declare and see what happens in 1 session and 1 day to go. Hope for some turn and variable bounce.

I’d bat most of today and get well over 300 lead. Quick pop at them for half an hour tonight, still have a fairly new ball in the morning.Insane_Homer wrote: Thu Oct 10, 2024 7:45 am 250+ lead by tea. declare and see what happens in 1 session and 1 day to go. Hope for some turn and variable bounce.

Actually, I’m now thinking that you might want to set it so that Pakistan would have 100-105 overs to bat, so you get a second new ball near the end of tomorrow if you need it. So give them just over an hour tonight.

823/7 sounds about right, then?Enzedder wrote: Wed Oct 09, 2024 5:30 pmI hope England can bat for at least another day - 800/6 sounds great and will teach them for delivering such a pitch. The suspicious betting patterns on this one will be visible from Mars.
These Pakistani batters are making England work hard - as they should

IIRC the last two times England conceded 500 they’ve won.Enzedder wrote: Fri Oct 11, 2024 6:39 am Leach gets 2 more (1 batter in hospital) so an innings and 47 runs it is)
How many times has a side scored 500+ in their 1st innings and lost?
Remarkable result really

Not finding another example at international level, maybe domestic in India????Enzedder wrote: Fri Oct 11, 2024 6:54 am I meant lost by an innings. I am thinking this may be a first
Clearly you beat England by scoring something less than 500 in your first dig, or are Australia.
I love reading Barney Ronay, but this genuinely nearly brought me to tears about the slow death of Test cricket extrapolated from the Pakistan gameEnzedder wrote: Fri Oct 11, 2024 6:54 am I meant lost by an innings. I am thinking this may be a first
