I think their lack of top-level talent was more of a reason, to be honest. JLdP could have been a decent Springbok, but he seems to have the SA disease of 'muscle over skill/positioning'. I don't watch any more than highlights of Sale Sharks games, so I can't say for sure but I heard he's just been 'okay' in England. Dan and Rob aren't even worth discussing for the Boks.

Dan has passed JLdP a long time ago as the best du Preez.Lemoentjie wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 12:08 pm I think their lack of top-level talent was more of a reason, to be honest. Springboks, Stormers and WP supporter.
I suspect both twins will be playing for the Boks in coming years (once they recover from Covid)
Dan was in outstanding form at 8 when he left SA and continues to play well. JLdP has actually switched to 5 and still has one of the best offloads in the premiership.

I can remember that JLdP was quite good the few times he played for the boks, has been one of the better performers in those terrible 2016 and 2017 seasons.Big Nipper wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 12:12 pm10000 times thisLemoentjie wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 12:08 pm I think their lack of top-level talent was more of a reason, to be honest. And as mentioned above, Dan du Preez has become quite the player the last two years for Sale. They should be in the bok picture and i think they will be.

To many white chicken runners already. Adding two more would be stupid.
SPOTLIGHT: Rynhardt Elstadt says he is ready to help the Springboks should they need him for the upcoming Rugby Championship.
Loose forward Elstadt, who plays for Toulouse in France, made his Springboks debut in July 2019. He was omitted from the World Cup-winning squad months later but locks Lood de Jager and RG Snyman will miss the upcoming Rugby Championship opening up space in the set-up.
Although the tournament schedule has been revealed, the Springboks still have to confirm their participation in Australia.
“I had a nice taste of it [Bok rugby]. I would really like to be a part of it again, it was a great experience,” Elstadt told AFP.
“It’s a lot of players on a different, much higher level. Everything goes much quicker, faster, smoother.
“I’m not the first-choice lock, I don’t mind helping out there, it’s quite intense. I know there are a few locks at home who can stand up to the challenge, if not they’ll have to grow up quite quickly and fulfil the spots,” he added.
He has always been more of a 4 lock than a flanker in my eyes.
A bit of a filthy player................................would fit in at the Sharks.

England are about to cap a hugely promising young SA lock - Dave Ribbans. I’d hope Rassie has given him a call.

He's been at Saints since 2017 and was called up to the senior England training squad this year. I doubt he'll come back to play for the Boks even if Rassie flew over personally to speak to him.sunnybanana wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 11:41 am Elstadt? Fuck me

Very good lock. Featured for WP mostly in U19 and U21. Played a few Curry Cup games for the seniors then went to England. Forget about getting him back, he's a goner.assfly wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 12:02 pmNever heard of him. Were all Premiership sides considered for the training squad? I don’t really follow, but they seem to have invited a lot of fringe players.average joe wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 12:10 pmHe's been at Saints since 2017 and was called up to the senior England training squad this year. Stats also in his favour
Over 2m tall and about 115 Kgs. With a very high work rate and a bit of an edge. Very popular with the fans.

Locks aren't a concern. We have ample cover. What happened to the great grandson of Jack Slater. Haven't heard much about him lately. Sort of disappeared off the radar.

Yup I think most of our forward pack have ample cover at the moment, not to difficult at the moment to put together a forward pack that will be very competitive against any international team.
For me we have a huge problem at flyhalf, I do not see anyone filling Pollard's spot that will give me any confidence at Bok level. None of the incumbents in SA are playing consistently well in a game and seem to have as many bad errors as good plays in any given game. The guys playing in Europe does not offer much better either. It seems that as soon as an opposition team applies enough pressure on any of these guys, they fold and start producing loads of errors and bad decision making. With Pollard getting a bad injury every few years it seems, there is loads of daylight in quality between him and whoever need to replace him in the Bok team. So we have a bunch of flyhalf options that are pretty decent during club rugby and super rugby, but during test rugby they will most likely screw up more often than not.
At least at scrum half we seem to have several young players that are stepping up to the mark, and getting some good depth there again.

Bosch is the answer....but he is a Tsaark so Rassie will persist with his utter failure Willemse.
Bosch has not lost a game he has played in for Superrugby this year...and he outclassed Jantjies this past weekend
Watched Episode 2 of Chasing the Sun after some good samaritan uploaded it to YouTube.
It's so good. Amazing to see players away from the usual media exposures. So funny to see a guy like Eben goofing around in the changeroom.
The part where they interviewed Herschel Jantjies' family was incredibly moving. I had no idea he came from such a deprived background.
And when Mapimpi spoke of his wristband gesture during the warm-up game against Japan, and how Rassie explains the impact it had on the team. Fuck me, that was powerful stuff.

Other than that it was great to see the psychological built up to the RWC, beginning with Wellington 2018. It all went exactly according to Rassies plan, it is great to see and hear his thoughts on that in hindsight.
Herschels story is fantastic, what bok debut he had. Best part was Eben: "why didnt you score under the posts??"
Great stuff, looking forward to ep. 3.
Rassie didnt look healthy though, hope he is better by now.
