The lesson from this is clear: as soon as anyone polices Ire at the breakdown, they become impotent.

I think if you stop during a carry to ask the ref about a knock on when you're ten points down with 2 minutes to go, your head is in the wrong place.

Another Frawley fuck up ends their chance anyway.

DMac POTM, but I would've given it to Jordie.

Big win for an extremely below par NZ. Ireland, bloody hell. Can only assume they'll get better from here.

Frawley might have made mistakes today, and it looks like he's trying too hard now, but he's got the creativity to make things happen in this team, and get backs involved.

Just playing meticulous isn't enough anymore, shown by tonight's game.

Decent win NZ

It was always a tough match first one up for Ireland, but it just shows the current lack of depth/experience & for too often we've had great years the year following the RWC, so fuck that; this time we need to use all four years to build.

I agree with Torq to be honest, the rest is a symptom of not having their own way. Every time they get reffed properly they struggle.

Well done AB’s. Ireland on their way back down, confirmed

First half from Nick Berry was almost as bad as the first half from Ratima.

Both should go back to the lower leagues to retrain.

That's the number 1 side in the world? Is test rugby at its lowest point ever?

Anyway, Aumua was fantastic again - best thing to come out of the last 2 weeks for the ABs. Like Razor, I wasn't too keen on seeing George Bell on the field...

Bench stepped up as well. PT playing the best rugby of his career.

Nah, that's a loser's point, blaming refs (which I do when Scotland lose, usually until I rewatch the game). How many people moaned their face off about Richie McCaw? He's the best I've ever seen, or the best forward anyway.

Every single team cheats at the breakdown, without exception.

Having Martin Corry as a symbol of your low point must be nice - how many honours did he win in the game?

Yep, Aumua's playing really well. Was sweating a bit over his lineout throwing towards the end, but needn't have worried. Apart from his first throw not being straight, he was spot on. And kudos to our jumpers for nicking a couple of Irish throws... very happy with our set piece over all, tbh.

Ratima had another untidy game, and his struggles to clear the ball were far too Christie-esque for my liking. Roigard simply has to start against France.

Roigard was miles faster in clearing the ball from the ruck. He gave us so much more pace on the ball.

Thought I would try these before the journo's efforts

1. Tamaiti Williams - Very solid, good work trundling the ball of a number of times 7.5

, 2. Asafo Aumua - his best test to date? Put us on the front foot every time he took it up and defended well 8.5

, 3. Tyrel Lomax - did he play? Didn't hear any moans about him so he can't have had a bad game 7

, 4. Scott Barrett (Captain) - played his part well except he should have spent far more time in the first half talking to Berry about the Irish sealing off the mauls. 7.5

, 5. Tupou Vaa’i, - Did well in a number of areas, missed a couple of throws but defended well and gave us lots of go forward 7.5

6. Wallace Sititi - My man of the match, just ahead of Aumua. This man has ticker to burn. 9

, 7. Sam Cane - One of his better games this season. Didn't miss much and cleared the mauls well - we needed another one of him to clear the other buggers lieing all over the ball. 8,

8. Ardie Savea (Vice-Captain), He's still outperforming any other 8 in the world and did so again today 8.5

9. Cortez Ratima, - my mum said, if you have nothing good to say, say nothing. 0

10. Damian McKenzie, Got horrible ball from Ratima - always straight at him so he started flat footed. When he could run, he did well. Kicked very well. 7.5

11. Caleb Clarke, - hard to perform well outside of THAT backline but when he got the ball he ran well when always under pressure. 7

12. Jordie Barrett (Vice-Captain), - when Smilie made his kids, he went for more brawn than brain. It showed. However, he was MASSIVE in the air for more points (With sympathies having to play in a static backline. 6.5

13. Rieko Ioane, - some good, some bad but mostly OK. Good defence 7

14. Mark Tele’a, - he tried hard outside the same backline as Clarke. 7

15. Will Jordan - Dmac was better when he dropped back in cover. Couple of good runs and very good in the air 6.5

I think we all had good reason to worry about Aumua's lineout throwing - but happy to eat crow on this one! He's obviously put in a huge amount of work with Corey Flynn and co.

Tuipulotu has finally found his place -- a great player off the bench. He played as well tonight as he did against England. Tupo Vaa'i seemed pretty invisible for long periods.

DMac's kicking out of hand was excellent, except for the 2~3 little chip kicks.

Too low a score for Jordan, he was great under the high ball and scored the decisive try.

This backrow is really working well, with all three playing so well.

Not sure what was wrong with Ratima but he was well off his best. I would definitely start Roigard next week.

I read with interest all the comments after we scraped home against England that Ireland would blow us off the park but we played the #1 team at their homeground and won by 10. More than satisfactory.
