Mostly because neither did a croc roll and nobody is quite sure why the card was issued. It was Cummings who fell on the lower limb of the Saffa so presumably that's why he got the card.

Is he now suspended for next week(s)?
I suspect there will be some sort of ban heavily mitigated to back up the officials. Something daft like 6 weeks mitigated to 4 due to the "act" being accidental due to influence of Darge, halved again for good behaviour and halved to 1 for sending biscuits to the panel. Meaning he'll miss the game he probably wasn't going to start anyway.
I reckon you’ll be bang on with this. It was obviously a terrible decision compounded by an even worse TMO review, and this will be blindingly obvious to the panel, but they’ll find some way of fudging it without admitting it was a complete fuckup.

At least, thanks to the new rule, we didn’t have to play a man down for 60-odd minutes.
If they are using the trial automatic sanction process the minimum he can get is 2 weeks.

If they are still on the existing sanctions he could get 2 weeks mitigated down to 1.

TNT highlights absolutely godawful. 4 minutes, most of it kicks at goal. The only bit of Scotland open play shown was the disallowed try. However, they replayed enough of the red card incident to make it obvious how bloody ridiculous it was. The referee actually says ‘it’s a croc roll and he lands on the limb’. Which is it? Certainly, there is absolutely nothing there that remotely resembles my understanding of what a croc roll is.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

A one week ban for the offence they're really wanting to concentrate on and get out of the game is an admission it's a really soft card.

100%. Just admit they got it wrong, clarify the law, and move on. This is just stupid

Still need to watch the highlights and I was a good 5 hours deep at that point but I'm glad you lot are agreeing with my drunken opinion at the time.

I would be fairly tempted to go full noise in the backs at the weekend. I think there are a few things they can iron out and there is an A game soon for some of the fringe backs. I also hate the way caps get sprayed around these days too but realise I am an auld fart in that regard.

That was largely my reaction - if they really thought it was that bad it would have been a lengthy ban.

I think he might start which is wild given our back row depth. 'World class' - the description John Dalziel has used, is a bit much, but I am looking forward to seeing how justified the hype is.

Douglas has huge potential anytime I've watched him play. Reckon this weekend would be an ideal time to blood him.

Such an important player for Francoball - whatever they paid Tuipolotou to stay, pay it for Jordan too.

Seems to say he pleaded guilty which I'm very surprised by. Had to ban him really if he says he did it tbf to world rugby.

Would he be the first Scotland cap who has an international match before pro? Did Adam Ashe?

It's a wild description, he's not world class - Dalziel sounds a bit silly saying that. It's odd that the Scotland coaches opinion and the Edinburgh coaches opinions are so different.

Similar to an approach the England cricket team have adopted. Picking players on what they see as likable traits and potential over others.

The Watson contract was an issue for Edinburgh as there's several players who play 7 who could have pushed on. Watson has been fine but Boyle, Crosbie and Douglas could have had more gametime.

Fin Smith signed a 2 year contract extension recently with another year on his current one. Buying him would be a stretch even for Bristol.

Watson doesn't need to be picked over Douglas though. Edinburgh have too many back rows. Everett isn't the coach doe Douglas either as he's been picking Muncaster at 7 so going for just a big back row.

Watsons contract and reputation probably makes it a little tough subconsciously to bomb him out. Everitt is a problem though and I'd happily seem him gone (I am a broken record on that).

There's an issue in this for me. Either he's extremely talented and Kenny is being wasteful for not selecting him and/or Scotland are selecting their favourites over form. It could be them highlighting a talented player and nudging him into Edinburgh contention which circles me back to the first issue.

Crosbie has played a hundred games for Edinburgh - I don't think gametime has been an issue for him.

You are right about the Watson contract in general though. Especially given that Boyle looks absolutely capable from the appearances that he has had and Watson has not been in peak form the last couple of seasons.

Was talking specifically about at 7 although 104 games for a player who is 28 in April with 71 starts isn't ideal. If Watson was gone he could have had more starts there over last season at 7 as Watson had a large number of starts last year.

There are only 20-odd games each season for Edinburgh and the back row is pretty attritional. I think you would want or expect some rotation there ideally.

Obviously Crosbie would have more starts at a club with fewer international-standard back rows but he is not really starved of professional experience, comparatively. Josh Bayliss is the same age and has a similar number of starts at Bath. Jack Dempsey is 3 years older and only has 36 more starts.

Watson and Ritchie both needed big contracts because they were key players for Scotland when given the deals...

I am surprised Crosbie hasn't ever left looking for unquestioned first choice rugby.

Chuffed for Muncaster, would have liked to see Jordan at 10 and Paterson at 15 but hey ho.

Is the A game being shown anywhere? Expect several of those guys to be involved.

Professional experience does not necessarily equal a chance to push on or get game time in a certain position (in this case at 7). Bayliss is a jack of all trades back row who might not let anyone down but is a master of none of them. Crosbie had potential and was stuck grabbing game time in whatever position he could for a while and is now effectively a utility backrow with no set position nailed down as his best. Dempsey has more starts at 8 than Crosbie does starts.

That 2017 under 20s team gave three good international players but Crosbie and to a lesser extent CHH and Craig had the potential to be better than they are.
