If one of the Welsh teams folds, a third Scottish team taking its place would be great, but we don’t have the money.Big D wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 1:53 pmNot sure it would be worth it. Other than the CEO preferring to pocket all the cash, has there ever been any serious thought from the SRU from properly investing in London Scottish, restoring them to former glories, and using it as an extra development team? It’s terribly run (always has been) but must still be more viable than a third first class team in Scotland.

Difficult to imagine Edinburgh will improve enough to win this - it's near enough to a second home stadium for most of the Warriors anyway.

London Scottish aren't interested either. The SRU did try a few years ago to expand the partnership.Big D wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 1:53 pmNot sure it would be worth it. I spoke to a guy who is on the Richmond committee after a Calcutta Cup game at Twickenham a couple of years ago- he's the brother of a mate of mine. There is so much tangled politicking going on at the Athletic Ground that it would be nigh on impossible for 'Scottish to mount a serious go at being the third pro team. '
Scottish were supposed to be moving, but I think that has been shelved.

Boan was signed as a project player. A 23 year old with 20+ pro games for (admittedly) the Cheetahs, and 30+ Currie Cap games is the Schoeman/Nel mould. And with so many games so young he was fairly established anyway.robmatic wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 7:23 amI think Venter would be the principal loosehead at a lot of URC teams. He's been a great signing considering he didn't have much of a pedigree in pro rugby before he came - turned out much better than a lot of the more 'established' NSQ props that we've signed e.g. de Bruin.Tichtheid wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 1:14 pm Three year extension deal for Schoey at Edinburgh.
I was just having a look and Venter qualifies for Scotland in just over a year at the start of the '26 6N, he'd be a year older than Schoeman when he qualified, so nothing in prop years. For my money Venter has been the best loosehead playing in Scotland this season. I'd like to see Mikey Jones get game time.
Then on the other side get Rae starting more often and bring on young Ollie B-L.
Has been one of Edinburgh's best players. If Schoeman wasn't a bit of a culture hero he'd be much more popular.
It has taken nearly 10 years to make the decision., please don’t destabilise me so swiftly

Me too but not as passionately as my adopted team.
I suppose that's fair enough.

Edinburgh have shut down the Glasgow midfield which has completely killed their attack. Hopefully this isn’t replicable by everyone else.
Just as I type this we’ve just seen Glasgow’s midfield finally make a break.

If Edinburgh win this because Schoey kicked a grubber we need to have a statue.
I still expect embra to lose.KingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2024 4:32 pm If Edinburgh win this because Schoey kicked a grubber we need to have a statue.

So once again Edinburgh show they can do it if they really put in the effort. I cannot see them backing this up with further similar performances, unfortunately.
