From what I have read about Mayne he sounds like one of those folk who are just not suited for life outside of war. I have an old friend who just couldn’t hold down civilian life.

He was a great soldier by all accounts, RM for 10 years Then somehow ended up in Calvi with 2REP LE. I bumped into him after he had done his five and he was getting drunk and fighting the world.

He never got married or had a long term relationship I always suspected he was gay but had some internal demons that never allowed him to come out.Poor bloke ended up in a bad accident and was killed.

Haven't seen the series in fairness so not doing the rounds on this. Have they touched on the rumours that he was gay?
The whole original concept of the SAS was reckless to be honest and many of the original officers were picked for exactly that reason.

No, no real suggestion he was gay but as well as the violent drunken lunatic angle they are pushing the narrative he was a boring, pontificating blowhard.
Stirling was the one who was a chancer; Mayne was half-nutter, & half someone with zero tolerance with anyone who wasn't up to his standards.

Stirling got a sizable number of his team killed in a parachute drop that anyone with a smidgen of knowledge would have seen was going to be a fucking disaster. I'm a bit surprised that Stirling wasn't the Office that Mayne smacked, but I suppose he got himself captured before Mayne could have come to the conclusion that his Officer in charge was a liability.

Mayne's decorations showed that he was single-minded, & utterly committed to his men, it's a pity that the same couldn't be said about Stirling; it's one thing to embark on a mission knowing that there's a bloody good chance you'll die, it's another to have an Officer send you out on a mission with them having done fuck all planning, & then you getting killed because they were too focused on their own career, & not keeping you alive !
Stirling's post-military career is a wee bit of a stain on his reputation.

Mercenaries, a bit of gun running, & planning to overthrow the odd Government here & there .... and one of those being the UK; sure it's all in the normal career trajectory of any self-respecting former Spec-Ops Colonel.

If he were still alive today, he'd have his own Talk Radio station, or a spot on OAN !, instead of Ollie North making a virtue of being a traitor & disgracing every oath he took to serve his Country.

I don't watch award shows, but the best joke I've read from the Golden Globes is 'oh, look, here's two time holocaust survivor Adrien Brody'
And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?

American Primeval on Netflix I absolutely tremendous.
A truly grim and gritty frontier series chronicalling the Mormon "wars" in USA history.

Linda has managed to Dunning Kruger her way through so far. Be interesting to see if anyone is smart enough to recognise her distinctive handwriting.

They could do with recruiting. Minah is a one(wo)man show at the moment.

Traitors

So watched the last episodes in a binge last night. Finale was a bit of a damp squib.

But hot damn, Frankie

I know someone who looks, sounds and acts exactly like her to an uncanny degree. If they are a type, then I’m afraid the one I know likes to be the boss and prefers men who still call their parents mummy and daddy and like to eat bananas for their shape rather than the taste.

As she stated so eloquently in the finale, she is a mummy.

They're showing the full series of the original Monkey on Prime Video.

I'll not even pretend it's high quality, however it is even more batshit mental than I remember.

Quite enjoyed Castlevania Nocturne.
Decent animation if not a bit of a circuitous story.

I'm fairly certain that the producers mess with the edits to present people in certain ways but Leanne came across as totally awful.

Just noticed Fringe is available to stream in ITVX.

I had forgotten how fucked up the first few episodes were.

Started on Reacher Season 3. Hopefully it's more like Season 1 and less like Season 2.

Season 2 was poor. The supporting characters - not necessarily the cast, they were just following the script - were awful.

I quite like the books as a bit of daft light reading, not really got into the series in the same way.

S3 is based on one of the better Reacher novels and so far has been good after 3 episodes.

It's quite apposite in the current climate.

I think this role suits an aged De Niro better than that nonsense in the Irishman.

Haven’t watched any of it yet, but it’s got a tremendous cast.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen Jesse Plemons be anything other than excellent in any role.

Also, Andor season two trailer and release date confirmed. Really enjoyed season one.

And, hot take, Rogue One is the best movie in the entire Star Wars franchise.
