We bag Slade, deservedly, for the midfield defending, but Lawrence clowns about aplenty as well. Between the two of them there's not much being offered in terms of defensive smarts.

I see you're familiar with the work of Henry Slade.ScarfaceClaw wrote: Sat Feb 22, 2025 5:11 pmThat was just aimless and does nothing other than gives possession away.
I'm listening on the radio. Peter Wright says that you and the ref haven't a clue.ScarfaceClaw wrote: Sat Feb 22, 2025 5:13 pm Ominous for the Scottish scrum. Front row buckled badly.

I'm inclined to give a 13 more leeway when he can't trust his 12, but Lawrence hasn't covered himself in glory.el capitan wrote: Sat Feb 22, 2025 5:14 pm We bag Slade, deservedly, for the midfield defending, but Lawrence clowns about aplenty as well. Has Peter Wright ever said anything BUT the ref doesn’t have a clue?Blackmac wrote: Sat Feb 22, 2025 5:16 pmI'm listening on the radio. Peter Wright says that you and the ref haven't a clue.ScarfaceClaw wrote: Sat Feb 22, 2025 5:13 pm Ominous for the Scottish scrum. Front row buckled badly.![]()

Odd knock on call, but anyway.
As usual, a lot more physically today, but Jordan and Rowe been good.

Fucking canned music to try and create some 'atmosphere'. The crowd would do it themselves if there were anything worth getting excited by.
Borthwick went on and on about exciting attack in an interview with the BBC this week and what do we get, box kick after fucking box kick. Anti-rugby. We've done nothing with the ball since Freeman's try.

It feels like Mitchell box-kicks more in one England game than he does in a whole season for Saintssockwithaticket wrote: Sat Feb 22, 2025 5:20 pm Fucking canned music to try and create some 'atmosphere'. The crowd would do it themselves if there were anything worth getting excited by.

Back when I was a season ticket holder at Quins, the seats we had were the back row of the West Stand. The box behind us was always blathering on about Chelsea and little else.Sandstorm wrote: Sat Feb 22, 2025 5:25 pmYou should try the pub I’m in: two tables either side talking about football finances. The constant kicking isn't getting us out of our half for more than 2 seconds at a time. If we don't switch tactics the second half will just be more of the same - doing our best to weather Scottish pressure while not creating any scoring chances.

England scrambling defence late in the first half but not offering much on attack. Will no doubt result in an English try but there, I’ve said it.

Great burst and offload in midfield. Totally butchered after that.

English attack not great but the defence was excellent.
Scotland dominating possession but very wasteful in attack. Shit the bed at least 3 times in great positions. Thats what separates Scotland from the top teams, execution is sporadic at best.

Sums up England's three attacking strategies:-sockwithaticket wrote: Sat Feb 22, 2025 5:34 pmAct of desperation born from the fact we had fuck all time in their 22.Hal Jordan wrote: Sat Feb 22, 2025 5:33 pm WTF was that second offload about?

1). Box kick it;
2). Aimless grubber kick, probably by Slade; and
3). Play the Do or Die card miracle play attempt.

It's weird how bad England are at stopping Van Der Merwe. He is a hugely effective attacking weapon, but there seems to be a massive mental block about him.

I really don't see the point in sending players back out after half time if you're going to sub them in <10 minutes later, let alone <5.

Feel sorry for Sleighthome, he's barely touched the ball and just chased box kicks and bombs, then dragged off.

If you're picking the Smiths and a notionally attacking 12 in Slade, plus a very mobile 7 in Earl, a slow, deliberate kicking game is the obvious way to attack.Kawazaki wrote: Sat Feb 22, 2025 5:55 pm Borthwick's pathologically low risk ethos is writ large all over this performance.

Yet the evidence suggests you're obviously wrong.

English ball presentation and ruck clearance is diabolical.
Starting to rack up the knock ons on attack too.
