Oh well, will have to be satisfied with our 7 World cups, 2 Champions Trophys,, holding every bilateral trophy possible and being reigning World Test champions.

Remind me again what your failed state SA,has in the Trophy cabinet lol.......

Look like our new coach went back by selecting the same type of bowling attack since readmission in 1992. No spin.

... is Keshav Maharaj a military medium bowler now?

I’d still have Sefrica as slight favourites here. Pitch looks good to bat on.

To choke, you need to be in a position where you were likely to win.

Kiwis win by 50 runs, despite heroic 100* from Miller.

We choked in the first innings with the ball, bowling all over the place. Too many runs on the board.

I think the whole 'choke' thing is misused and abused too easily.

It's insulting the winning team as being not good enough to win in their own right, for a start. I used to say the same back in the old days of PR before NZ won their second RWC and everyone threw the 'choke' word around like the confetti Jake dreamed of whenever he wrote about some imagined exclusive with an international player.

It's a high stakes game and someone has to be the winner... maybe in this case it was simply that the Black Caps are a really good team and they deserved the win.

Great result for NZ. The best team that has played in the tournament in the actual host country.

As for Sunday - genuinely don't think NZ can beat a VERY inform Indian team. Really disappointing that India have been given a massive advantage (that they certainly don't need) - but I hope we give a good account of ourselves. Amazing that little ol' NZ can produce players and teams like this.

I get the feeling that most outside of Indian fans will be cheering on NZ.

It's a bugger knowing that the whole tournament was just to decide who loses to India in the final. Granted, they are the best side but the extra advantages they are getting is pathetic. They should have been made to travel to a new city for each game

Ah well, that's a shame. This isn't a vintage Proteas side, but we've been in some good form late.

I agree with Guy; I wouldn't call it a choke. We weren't overwhelming favourites to win it, and NZ were clearly the better side.

Good luck in the final. For the love of god, please beat India!

Santner is? You don't play in the sub continent without three spin bowlers.

Shocking by Proteas. Bavuma really started the rot with his slow start. Put pressure on the boys all the way down. From my experience. You put pressure on the bowlers by hitting them around the park on the start. Openers in the short format don't play themselves in.

I agree, but they tried Stubbs opening & tonking and that failed too.

Commentator: “Well constructed 50 by Mitchell”. Not sure I agree with that given that over half the balls he faced were dot balls

He needs to go ballistic in these last few overs if we are to have any chance at posting a competitive target. But still dot ball after dot ball.

Didn't hold out much hope with this final.

India are so very good - unsure why they need extra help - but there it is.

I hope some media push back against the ICC and their bosses being the BCCI.

Just realised this game was being played.

Great to see Lochore-born 20y.o. Muhammad Abbas smacking a rapid 50 on his ODI debut. This young fella could become our best ever Pakistani poach... are there any other contenders?

I sense a bit of tongue in cheek with your 'poach' comment but it was a superb knock by a youngster on debut. Pakistan openers looking pretty comfortable out there

Top notch Saffer poaches like Wagner and Conway, along with Aussies like Lomax and de Groot, are becoming so commonplace.

I thought Billy Ibadulla, but when I looked him up he never played for NZ. Retired from test cricket, moved to NZ and played for Otago.

I don't remember him as a player, but didn't he coach Glenn Turner for years?
