Just had the two worst phone calls of my entire life.

My dad on the phone to say my younger brother's chemo is being ended and he's being moved onto palliative care, followed by my desperately weak younger brother on the phone crying his eyes out and apologising he won't be there for my kids or to look after my dad.

Trying to book flights to get down there and find out my daughter's just got norovirus.

Driving down today to isolate in hotel for 48 hours, no idea if he'll last that long.

If there is a God, he has got some fucking explaining to do.
Very sorry to hear that.

Politics is getting very messy
Serbia's parliament session erupts into chaos as opposition MPs set off flares and smoke grenades

Serbia's parliamentary session in Belgrade on Tuesday briefly turned violent after opposition MPs set off flares following a short brawl, leading to injuries. Speaker of Parliament Brnabić urged MPs to resume work.

Serbia's first spring parliamentary session devolved into chaos in Belgrade on Tuesday after opposition MPs interrupted the increasingly heated discussion to set off flares and smoke grenades.

The incident, which prompted security to prevent a broader physical confrontation after some lawmakers got involved in a brawl, caused the session to be interrupted.

Setting their admission to the EU back another few years.

I just wish the EU rules allowed it to expel Hungary too until they discover what happens if you are found to have only pretended to play by the club rules, & then as soon as you get your membership, revert to being an dictatorship. I suppose we'll just have to live with them being cunts until their electorate realizes that they're going to get fucked from pillar to post until the get rid of Orban.

Telling as many folks as I can about this, because so would you.

Played a friendly 2nds game on saturday, played prop for the first half (first quarter for us, 2nd for them as they only brought 10). 12 a side on a full pitch. Last 4 minutes, down to 11 vs 11, I was back to prop, having played centre for most the 2nd half (that was different!). We'd just scored 2 tries, to bring us within 7 of them. Restart, sat there thinking the lock in front of me was going to take the ball, but he stays quiet, think bollocks, going to have to try and get it. Manage to take the catch on the run, dodge the first up defence, winger coming from deeper to take me, dummy to my support on the inside and the winger bites on it (and calls me a cunt as I go past  ), and go the length to score under the sticks.

A genuine 60m try. Not a 10m turning into 60m at the bar. Very pleased with myself, and not expecting to ever be fortunate enough to have those circumstances repeated!

Who the hell records 2nd XV lowest possible level games . No one wants to see an overweight hairy man run awkwardly to the line, then take about 30 seconds to get back up  The guys I coach u13s with (and played with in that game, all 4 of us) have threatened to quit coaching since they suspect I won't shut up about it :D.

It's in the match report though, written by someone who was actually watching.

I found him as I wandered back to my half, gave him a cuddle

Nearly scored against my team as well when playing for the opposition, hit a great line at pace, somehow caught the ball from the 9, went through the first line, saw I was only up against our 9, who I'd have been confident of beating, and then my arms turned into spaghetti and I just lost the ball, swore a bit then!

Glastonbury lineup for this summer announced. Still has massive pulling power for artists when you see the names further down the bill from the headliners. Not going to pretend I’m a fan of the 1975 or Olivia Rodrigo, but Neil Young headlining Saturday night is a bit of a coup. Loyle Carner, Charlie XCX and The Prodigy headlining second stage. Kaiser Chiefs, Snow Patrol, Supergrass, Biffy Clark, Alanis Morrisette, Busta Rymes, Wet Leg, English Teacher, Fatboy Slim, Frank Ferdinand, Self Esteem, Father John Misty, Kneecap, Leftfield, The Libertines, Future Islands, Kae Tempest, and Rod Stewart in the legend slot on Sunday afternoon.
And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?

Every so often a song comes along that makes me lift my head out of trad folkydom, Wet Leg's Chaise Longue was one such. Before that it was Christine and Queens and before that it was the Arctic Monkeys.

Kneecap might be fun.

This happened yesterday, the occupants of the cabin that crashed seem to have minor injuries only, which is good news. My daughter was on the lift a bit further up the mountain when it failed. The lift was obviously shut down and after 6 (!) hours, they were rescued by the ski patrol and abseiled down.

She was able to keep us up to date with progress, so it was a slightly stressful time here (much more so on the gondola, I'm sure) waiting to hear if she got down to the ground safely. She said the best thing about being back on the ground was she could finally have a pee.

She sent a few photos/video, including using helicopters to get ski patrol to some of the cabins. This is because - get this - the lift goes over a grizzly bear enclosure, and the bear, called Boo, is awake and was seen out sunbathing in the last few days.

Shit scary stuff! Looks like the cabin didn't properly reconnect to the main cable once it was loaded up and ready to depart? Thankfully there didnt seem any problem with the main cable. Glad she is ok and it hasn't put her off skiing.

I've never been in a cable car/cabin/bubble get stuck but I was in a two man chairlift in Val d'Isere that got stuck in snowstorm whilst we were about 200 feet above the ground. I was sitting on the upwind side and ended up lookin like frosty the snowman by the time we got down about 30 mins later. Frozen solid and needed a few hot chocolates with a top up from the hip flask to warm up.

Erdoğan taking some fairly significant steps to cement his hold on power today. Turkey's democracy is somewhat problematic anyway, but yesterday İmamoğlu's university diploma from 35 years ago was cancelled, rendering him ineligible to be a presidential candidate, and this morning he has been arrested on terrorism and organised crime charges.

Everyone knows that İmamoğlu would probably win a presidential election if he were a candidate. He's already won Istanbul twice, is very charismatic, and is a relentless campaigner.

We will see if any street protests kick off. They might not because people are pretty numb to the regime's shenanigans and protesting doesn't really achieve anything here apart from earning you a beating and criminal charges.
