Potentially.

Lots of young SQ back rows kicking about and doubt the SRU/Glasgow would match the salary of Brive given Venter is 33 very soon..
Agree on the age profile. I think my surprise was mostly due to Mann moving on too - Venter and Mann are the two hard carriers at the moment in the Glasgow non-starting backrow (i.e. behind Dempsey).
Yeah losing both is tough. Perfect storm with Venter with probably looking to sign off his career maximising money and maybe getting another experience v what realistically Glasgow can/should offer.

I wonder if anything unofficially has been said to Edinburgh and Glasgow about NSQ back rows. Edinburghs back five in the scrum are all SQ IIRC. Glasgow currently have three with at least one leaving.

I think only Paul Hill and Boan Venter are NSQ in the Edinburgh pack and the latter will almost certainly be involved in next year's 6N for us.

I think that's right, yeah. By next season the number will be around 9 across the two squads assuming no new non-SQ players come in*:
Edinburgh: Hill, Bofelli, Goosen
Glasgow: Schickerling, Vailanu, Du Preez, Talakai, Cancilierre, Cordero

* assuming McKay qualifies sometime next year, can't remember when though

I seem to remember that McKay is autumn '26 for qualifications and Goosen is a year later.

Glasgow Warriors for Munster

The big news is that wrecking ball that is Sione Vailanu is back after over a year out - good to see big Nonz back, along with the return of Captain Kyle.

Hastings reverts to Stand-off after is less than glowing performance at Fullback against the Ospreys

Patrick Schickerling switches from loose-head to tight-head.

Dry and reasonably warm ( for Scotstoun anyway) forecast.

Should be a cracker

15 Kyle Rowe (28)
14 Sebastian Cancelliere (51)
13 Ollie Smith (41)
12 Stafford McDowall (84)
11 Kyle Steyn (Captain) (82)

9 George Horne (130)

1 Jamie Bhatti (116)
2 Johnny Matthews (88)
3 Patrick Schickerling (7)
4 Jare Oguntibeju (5)
5 Alex Samuel (30)
6 Euan Ferrie (29)
7 Sione Vailanu (28)
8 Jack Mann (10)

Substitutes

16 Grant Stewart (57)
17 Nathan McBeth (49)
18 Sam Talakai (13)
19 JP du Preez (26)
20 Gregor Brown (30)

Great to see big Sione back, I’m a massive fan. His absence makes last seasons championship run in all the more impressive!

Edinburgh will be allowed to sign one or two where the may be over exposed during international periods. Likely front row and back row.

Surprise surprise, Mauvaka banned for 6 games (reduced to 3) for his headbutt. Great help to Scotland that.

I am surprised that nothing more has been said about the referees' faulty interpretation of the law on the day?

I'm pretty much convinced now that in order to get your ban halved you just need to suggest that you might (only might) not be a knife wielding sociopath.

Indeed. The Greeks were all over Scotland second half, but could only manage one shot on target. Good defensive performance, including from Hanley who I think is an utter liability most of the time.

Carley and the TMO will have been rebuked in their review. We don't need World Rugby to air dirty laundry about refereeing mistakes in public. The citation does that anyway.

That was a very moving story. I wish him the very best.

Good on Maro Itoje and Ben Earl, I give them pelters for the over the top celebrations, but they are good men and that is more important than anything.

Fair play to Glasgow getting the 5 points despite being poor. Hastings and Weir were both honking.

Itoje in fairness has dialled them down since being given the captaincy for club and country. He’s an unusual character in terms of rugby leadership, a soft spoken intellectual, but clearly a leader of men and to my mind a shoe in for the Lions.

Was also reading about Onyeama-Christie’s grandfather who he has added to his surname - a fascinating character. Delighted for O-C on a remarkable return and hopefully years ahead of him at the top of the sport

I hope they put in a performance like they did last time out against Munster, but I reckon this will be a tough game. Benetton are no mugs at home and it looks like they have their internationals back.

Poor is being kind to them! They were feckin awful and I am still trying to work out how they managed to win that game. Just shows how low Munster have fallen that a poor Weegie team missing most of their internationalists and playing 2-3 guys just back from injury can still beat them!

Oh and I got my stem cells put back yesterday. Another month in isolation so anything that helps pass the time is good.

Saw another article tipping Franco for the Wales job. Come on to f** k, SRU. This is an appointment which would weaken Glasgow, strengthen a direct rival, and take the best candidate to succeed Toony out of contention. Do not allow it to happen.
