This is just feckin unbelievable! Welby explains his complete and utter inaction in dealing with child sex abuse in his church on his being overwhelmed by the number of cases coming across his desk! He wasn't expected to deal with every case by himself, he had the whole feckin mechanism of the church to engage in order to tackle the abuse. He could have called in the police of sought help from the Government. What did he do instead? He did feck all and left those poor kids to either continue to be abused or else never get the chance to see their abusers face justice for their crimes. He has some gall to use this as an explanation for his inaction and dereliction of duty. He is a despicable, arrogant man, a real cunt dressed up in Eton/Cambridge education and robes and regalia of the church. To think he refused to resign when first challenged over his criminal incompetence! His inaction makes him complicit in these crimes just as much as if he did them himself ... joint enterprise!

Hmmm... quite difficult to accept the overwhelmed comment when he done nothing. How can something be overwhelming if you just ignore it?

Also the "it's unfair to expect perfect leaders" comment can just fuck off.

Of course leaders aren't perfect, but they get paid a hell of a lot for the higher expectations. Just reminds me a bit of the post office scandle too. Oh. I SEE, you want the money but not the extra pressure/expectations?

Is it a very high expectation to want his position to deal with this horrendous shit?

His resignation speech in the Lords where he cracked jokes and talked about his PA being the real victim of the scandal should have seen him drummed out of public life and just about everywhere else. Was happy to tell the world his opinion on just about everything bar a scandal he could have actually done something about. A colossal prick

He got overwhelmed by everyone in the clergy bashing the Bishop.

The sheer number of opportunities they had to do the right thing and they turned all of them down for over 40 years.

At least 3 generations of gutless moral cowards.

Yeah.

Friends in high places, right up to HRH !

In cases like this, where there was a clear duty of care, I think they should check if there were offenses after the individual knew that there were allegations, & chose not to act, & if there were further offenses, then they were an active conspirator in those offenses & should be charged as such !!

If you put the risk of dying in gaol in front of that decision to act or not act on an allegation, then I think you can be damn sure they'll take note of the allegation !

They knew exactly what was going on by the early 1980s and made a conscious decision to cover it up. I knew some of the people involved in that decision - most have since died. The recent report basically calls Welby a liar for saying he had no knowledge of the abuse until 2012, when he still decided to do nothing.

When asked if he would resign, his first thought was "is that the right thing to do?" but his first thought on hearing of the abuse was not "what is the right thing to do?"

And he thinks this is a convincing line of thought.

The Church is a business and what does any CEO do when they discover dodgy goings-on? Cover it up and lie about it. Then try to cover their own arse when it comes out.
