I was driving the other day and this came on the radio. There are songs that can make you pull over and just listen and there are ones like this that make you want to pull over and throw up.

The video actually makes it worse, a feat I thought would be impossible.

I'll accept your nominations - no national anthems though, they are very often pig dung in song form.

This is not the WORST song ever.

But if there is a Heaven and Hell I'm certain this fcker is used in both jurisdictions.

How a band who CAN actually can sing, can take a classic song and then....just fuck it up 6 ways from Sunday!! Timing, rhythm, tempo....all binned!

Nah - it was of its time. Heartthrobs singing about emotional stuff and looking emotional - the 15 year old girls absolutely lapped it up (I may have a couple of guilty pleasure tunes on the album this is from).

I think this (and almost every religious pop/rock song) must be in the picture

I don't care about your nominations, all I know is when I have the misfortune to hear this one, I'm desperate for a baseball bat to bash my own head in with, to stop the torment.

It's horrendous.

I'm going to choose this hill to die on. Cat Among the Pigeons is banal, predictable and entirely worthless. I'd happily go through every LP of that album ever pressed and scratch that track to buggery with a blunt compass. The lyrics are stupid and don't follow a narrative -
There's a cat among the pigeons
There's a pain in her chest
While the cat's among the pigeons there'll be no rest

Is the pain from her having a pigeon chest, perhaps? Musically it's a by-the-numbers filler that most self-respecting musicians would have left in the bin. The singing is just painful to listen to, feigning emotion just can't carry it. It's actually funny, it's so bad.

Don't get me wrong, I love good pop music. From that same year there was Tiffany, "I think we're alone now", Terrance Trent D'arby "Sign Your Name", Bros themselves with "When Will I be famous", The Primitives "Crash", Prince, Yazz, Womack & Womack, Erasure, Neneh Cherry. - All good pop singles

Some of the best albums that year were from the Pogues, Pixies, Prince, Public Enemy, Nick Cave, Sonic Youth, but it doesn't have to be that, as I say I like good pop songs, Dancing Queen is one of my all-time favourites.

This cat, however, should have been tied in a bag and thrown in a river.

I think this (and almost every religious pop/rock song) must be in the picture
There's probably a good Christian rock/popsong out there but they are few and far between right enough.

I have a lot of very good memories associated with that song!

Anything by Maroon 5, or by Coldplay in the last 10 years or so. It's all god awful!

911 is a Joke cover by Duran Duran is pretty convincing from a few perspectives. As for original dogshit songs We Are The World is a full nappy smeared in vomit.

Wesley Willis is an underground legend. I had a second job for a while packing bread orders for a small bakery in Freo. A few of my mates shared the gig, made it easier to work the late nights, hanging out banging orders together and listening to our local subscriber radio. We even knew a few of the DJs. The Sunday night show was hosted by a guy who liked to throw a Wesley track in every now and then to keep the scant audience on their toes, which is how I came to know about him.

From wiki...
Wesley Lawrence Willis (May 31, 1963 – August 21, 2003) was an American musician and visual artist. Diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1989, Willis began a career as an underground singer-songwriter in the outsider music tradition. Willis' songs are typically partially spoken in an MC style, and partially sung in a nasal and out-of-tune manner reminiscent of punk rock vocals. They feature bizarre, humorous and sometimes obscene or absurd lyrics sung over backing created by using the auto accompaniment feature on his Technics KN keyboard. His songs cover a wide variety of topics, with mental illness and consumerism being the most prominent themes.[1][2][3] He is best known for songs such as "Rock N Roll McDonald's" as well as a series of songs where he would directly insult his demons.

In a moment of madness I let my shield down and taught my daughter this song when she was 4. She loved it and could sing it for hours! It made my life complete misery for years and to this day, she is 27 now, if she wants to irritate me she will sing this!

This is a weird one. It comes across as bubble gum nothing pop - BUT - the lyrics are surprisingly moving, the sing-a-longability is off the charts and its got a catchy melody.

Was going to say, hugely popular with the 6 year olds. My daughters group of friends have decided they are going to sing it at the local busking day on the beach and have practise at our house on Friday afternoon. FFS
