No. So far they've just been illegally deporting poor sods who've been previously granted Green cards, or Visas; but now they want to essentially rescind birthright citizenship.
On the plus side, if the SCOTUS don't bitch slap him down, then the likes of Space Karen is now Canada's problem, & maybe Obama in his 3rd term can deport the entire D'umpt clan back to whatever burg they came from ?
To all the pearl clutching , knickers in a twist posters, she's landed. Sailed through customs and none of her 100+ party were asked to open their phones....

Fucking weird attitude.
Can I just make it 100% clear that although Tango Turd's mother was Scottish he relinquished any hope of calling Scotland home many, many years ago. We dont want him anywhere near Scotland.fishfoodie wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 10:23 pmNo. So far they've just been illegally deporting poor sods who've been previously granted Green cards, or Visas; but now they want to essentially rescind birthright citizenship.

PS When up north golfing last week we stopped in at Trump International for a peek. It looks fantastic but quite quiet on the day we visited. We didnt spend a penny there and my mates had to hold me back from pissing on the 1st tee! They are busy building a 2nd course which should be completed this year. For a money laundering scheme it has at least created some nice golf courses for Scotland once we take them into public ownership on the basis of proceeds from crime after the Unexplained Wealth Order is issued.

So the "leave now" communications to US citizens have started. Just coincidentally happened to be two immigration lawyers getting them.

It wasn't foreign Countries that destroyed American Manufacturing, it was American Corporations, & cooperative GOP administrations, who wanted to pay everyone a pittance, so their Board & Executives could get paid 100x what their employees earned.
We're close to a federal election and I keep hearing bros (including mine

Reshoring is a very interesting topic with multiple layers - for every Trump ‘we want those jobs here’ type , they are the exact same people who don’t want to live next to a factory or have pollution from it or even want to talk to people who merely work in factories, yet they want to be able to buy whatever they at cheapest price always. The vast majority of useless crap that’s made, I’m quite glad it’s made abroad in another countries sweatshop , and would rather we were nationally self reliant in the important stuff like food, medicine , homes, weapons, PPe, energy, and all the things that go into making and getting to the consumer all those products. Useless shit like MAGA baseball caps, China is welcome to make.Niegs wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 7:27 pm Out of interest, what are sensible ways they could reshore manufacturing? Or is it highly unlikely to be profitable any way given the costs of doing business?
The easiest way to onshore , is to make it tax attractive for a firm to be based there. Ireland did this brilliantly with pharma, microchips and financial services, and went from nowhere to a global hub in 20 years. Tax carrots are far more effective than stick tarrifs.
Manufacturing also doesn’t have to be all and end all of course , especially in mature markets like Uk where services dominate (France has even bigger slice of service sector, nearly 8o% gdp says wiki)

Another way to go about it is what Biden did. Incentivise key critical sectors of national interest to allow entrepreneurs and venture capital to go to work. So the US got a manufacturing boom in new technologies and home grown renewable energy production. Yes, there's always a section of the start ups that are only there to milk the system, but the US is good at that, understanding the balance between the money put in and the benefits you get when a success happens, which significantly out-weighs the government investment in funding.Yeeb wrote: Thu Apr 17, 2025 2:28 pmReshoring is a very interesting topic with multiple layers - for every Trump ‘we want those jobs here’ type , they are the exact same people who don’t want to live next to a factory or have pollution from it or even want to talk to people who merely work in factories, yet they want to be able to buy whatever they at cheapest price always. Nah, he’s making a point, which I agree with, that there is a lot of hugely over the top reaction and commentary on this thread, a lot of which would be laughed off the board on other threads

And so we've moved on from merely targetting legal migrants to actual non-white US citizens. Young Latino man with a US birth certificate, verified by a judge, still detained by ICE.

But everyone in this thread is being over-dramatic of course.

It's a concerted campaign, won't be long before the majority of the population is cowed into silence.
Tourism travel to USA from Europe down c17%, from the UK down c14%, from Canada down over 80%, Universities warning staff not to travel to USA due to fears at Border based on recent examples of academics being detained without due cause, flight numbers from Canada to USA down by c5%, big online businesses like Expedia cancelling contracts with accommodation providers across the US holiday states, hotels etc starting to panic given the work off very low margins, exchange students thinking twice about going to the USA next academic year, etc. My mate is off to Florida in a week and the rental property owner has been in touch to say they now have lots of spare dates and can offer him a great deal if he wants to extend his stay. The USA tourism industry is in a very fast and very big decline and this will hurt the economy.
Trump and his barking mad policies and unwarranted aggression at the borders etc is turning folk off traveling there, including myself. The randomness and the illegality of the actions of Customs & Border Agency, ICE etc is all about creating a sense of fear and its working, mostly to the detriment of the USA economy.
The refusal of the US Gov to obey the Supreme Court ruling to facilitate the return of Garcia from El Salvador is the test case. If Trump and his mob of brownshirts win the US quickly slides into full blown facism, it is almost there already. Project 2025 is still on full steam ahead mode!
I still have a few tin foil hats available ... the US is lost!

Regarding Kilmar Abrego Garcia

With the way that Trump and his bimbette press secretary were ramping up talk of deporting US citizens this week, it's clear, if it hadn't been already, that the law and due process now mean nothing if you're an 'undesirable'.
The Trump admin is flagrantly ignoring the Supreme Court's ruling at this point, not to mention the constitution Republicans are so fond of verbally masturbating over.
Interestingly there was a Republican senator who openly said this yesterday:

Yes I saw a few of those had been caught up in the 'remove yourself form the country' mass communications. Obligatory, 'aw, did the leopard eat your face?', but I wonder if it hints at the GOP maybe starting to realise it's time to reign in the monster.“We are all afraid,” Murkowski told Alaska nonprofit leaders on Wednesday, according to The Anchorage Daily News. “It’s quite a statement. But we are in a time and a place where I certainly have not been here before. And I’ll tell ya, I’m oftentimes very anxious myself about using my voice, because retaliation is real. And that’s not right.”

I don't think it's botched at all, I'm sure the DOGE goons did a lot of damage and made a lot of mistakes while attempting their smash and grabs of government data, but those being targetted seems to track precisely with whom Trump doesn't like.Sinkers wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 8:51 am Ever suspect that their info on who to target comes from some botched surreptitious data mining by Elon’s minions while they were rummaging around various govt entities?
On DOGE, someone's speaking up about their practices at the moment and one of the most sinister things is that a Russian IP address was attempting to log into US government systems using one of the newly created DOGE logins. So at best, DOGE is carelessly insecure at worst they're assisting in espionage.

At some point, assuming we don't have a complete collapse in democratic institutions in the US which I am not discounting, then there will be some serious charges of treason thrown at the DOGE guys including Musk. There is always a day of reckoning!sockwithaticket wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 9:31 amI don't think it's botched at all, I'm sure the DOGE goons did a lot of damage and made a lot of mistakes while attempting their smash and grabs of government data, but those being targetted seems to track precisely with whom Trump doesn't like.Sinkers wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 8:51 am Ever suspect that their info on who to target comes from some botched surreptitious data mining by Elon’s minions while they were rummaging around various govt entities?

All Murkowski has to do to stop being frightened is to find the courage, with a couple of others from her party, and the problem goes away

I think this is actually a crucial case to watch. Essentially, Trump and his admin are trying to defy the Court and they are seeking to generate enough popular support to carry that.sockwithaticket wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 9:24 am Regarding Kilmar Abrego Garcia

That is a direct challenge to the Constitution, through the Division of Powers. This is then, a direct attack on what the US views as its Democracy, and if he succeeds he more or less confirms his Dictatorship.
