Back from holiday in the land of the Black Mountain (Montenegro). Two fantastic episodes of turbulence on the flight home which I very much enjoyed as a break from the arse numbing boredom of the metal tube. My daughter very much enjoyed snapping her father sleeping with his mouth open. And then she showed me the picture of her brother in the same pose. Joke's on her, I have a picture of her as a toddler, sparked out in her car seat, mouth agape and missing her sock and shoe from one foot. Hah!
Less fun was the bloody M25 "50 mph because we're testing something or other " for the whole bloody stretch from the M27 to 1 mile before we came off. They were testing it when we drove to Stansted last bloody week, how much bloody data do they need to collect?

Just searched for best fruit and veges to consider planting at the moment. The top Google result was from AI, helpfully explaining that April and May in NZ is spring and early summer, and an ideal time to plant things like strawberries and pineapples.

We went down to the clubs outdoor course for the first time at the weekend, absolutely amazing! It's situated in a corner of a stately home in stunning countryside. The actual area the club has is half wooded, half kind of grassland with a couple of small rivers running through it in a valley. We have 28 targets set up around the area (including 3D animal type things), a practice area and a lovely wee clubhouse with BBQ facilities. Totally private for club members and we were the only ones there on a sunny afternoon. Blown away by it.mat the expat wrote: Thu Mar 27, 2025 4:19 amGood to hear!Slick wrote: Mon Mar 24, 2025 7:41 am
He loves his compound at the moment, cos it looks cool. But he’s absolutely loving it and became Scottish champion in his age group a few weeks ago - he’s 8.
I’m a bit worried that his early success will knock him when he’s not winning but I think getting outdoors will keep the interest going

Don't ask people about their injury, unless you're really prepared to hear the uncensored story !!
I recently sustained an injury, that while it wasn't as serious for me as it could have been, for chuckles I've told a couple of people who inquired about the obnoxiously large bandage on my thumb, what actually happened .... cue much grimacing & them turning a funny shade of green .....

I dislocated my thumb tackling the smallest player on the pitch after it got tangled in the pocket of his shorts.

Okay I'll stop teasing.
Fortunately the good people in Health service here did a great job on me, & I'll be back with two operational opposable thumbs in no time.
Spoiler
Show
My thumb got caught & pinched/crushed, & it was, "Degloved" to use the delightfully descriptive medical term.
Spare yourselves the photo search on google, I'd rather not remember the sight when I removed my glove

About 15 years ago I took the top of my left thumb off with an electric planer. The Dr in A&E asked if I had retrieved the missing part and I had to point out that there was probably a few hundred missing parts. I now have a small part of my right buttock in its place.fishfoodie wrote: Thu Apr 24, 2025 7:49 pm Okay I'll stop teasing.

Had the dressing changed yesterday & it all looks good so far, & confirms the positive stuff the surgeons said afterward, so, touch wood, all good.
It was one of those occasions where what's in your head is way, way worse than the reality. I got thru the whole thing without taking as much as a paracetamol for pain, when, for the first hour I was waiting for the Adrenalin to stop working, & to be in agony, & it never happened, it was just a dull throb.

Yuck!
Rest and heal up!
I did the same thing to my right thumb many years ago (yes, the doctor described it as "degloving" and they had to graft some skin from my lower abdomen to build it back up to about the original length.fishfoodie wrote: Thu Apr 24, 2025 7:49 pm Okay I'll stop teasing.

Many travel guides suggest spending two or three weeks in Australia, but I only had eight days.
To make the most of my trip, I planned ahead and made sure to make time for my must-visit spots.
I got to have downtime and see highlights throughout Sydney, Melbourne, and the Gold Coast.

How long before you had a nail of some description again ?, they're saying 3-4 months before I get a mutant nail, & probably a year before it's half way normal. It's one of those things you take for granted, but those nails are a big part of how your fingers operate, they're not just ornamental !
I'm also discovering just how right-hand dominant I am, as my attempts at shaving left handed are crap, & I banged my thumb getting the cap off a beer earlier, & boy did that smart

Still, dressing changed again today & it all looks good.
The accident removed the part above the joint in my thumb, also removing most of the nail. The skin grafted from my abdomen means I can basically use my thumb normally though it has no sensation in it so I can't do anything delicate, like picking small things up from my desk.fishfoodie wrote: Fri Apr 25, 2025 9:20 pmOne of the things I was worried about, but not an issue in my case thankfully.Kiwias wrote: Fri Apr 25, 2025 5:43 amI did the same thing to my right thumb many years ago (yes, the doctor described it as "degloving" and they had to graft some skin from my lower abdomen to build it back up to about the original length.fishfoodie wrote: Thu Apr 24, 2025 7:49 pm Okay I'll stop teasing.

The nail will never be the same shape as the original nail and grows as a sort of lump that needs filing down every month first so it doesn't bump on things and second so it doesn't look too grotesque.

Having an absolute nightmare with my business.
Yesterday morning emails stopped working and when I checked our website it redirected to a site offering our domain for sale. Turns out the IT guy that set it all up got my email and phone number wrong so they have been trying to contact me for payment etc but it hasn't been getting to me. Because they can't send me verification stuff as the details are wrong I've had to send loads of ID and information to their security team who have said it might take 72 hours before they can come back to me.
Do not need this.

Same issue here this morning, the company credit card renewed and no-one in IT noticed the reminder emails that our payments weren't going through. Our domain went offline at 3am this morning.Slick wrote: Thu May 01, 2025 9:20 am Having an absolute nightmare with my business.
