I managed 1 episode. The camera work was terrible, every shot of a person is too close to their face and slightly out of focus.Gumboot wrote: Sat Apr 26, 2025 1:19 am I had high hopes for Dope Thief, which stars the rapper guy from Atlanta. Starts off OK, but I'm up to episode 7 of 8 and probably should've pulled the plug a lot sooner. Not even sure I can be bothered watching the last episode. 4/10 WNB
The best new and returning TV series thread
I don't mind too much if it lacks a bit of action - I guess (I've not yet started watching Season 2, I'll wait until there are a few more episodes available) there's still the tension knowing a lot of grim stuff is afoot behind those glamorous scenes.sockwithaticket wrote: Sat Apr 26, 2025 12:01 am Given that season 2 is meant to be the last for Andor, it's started pretty slowly. It could do with a lot more rebellion/espionage and a lot less imperial domestic bliss and high society weddings. At this pace it feels like another 2 seasons are required to take us from Andor the new rebel to where he was in Rogue One.
For me what's important is that it keeps the fine acting, "realistic" characters and scenarios, and that grimness that I enjoyed from Season 1 - much of which depends on never ever featuring (or even acknowledging the existence of) Jedis, the force, Siths and Skywalkers... the whole puerile Lucas' magic cowboys paraphernalia.

I also have no wish to see Lucas' space wizards, but the whole billing of Andor as a series is that the two seasons would take us from his induction into the rebellion up to the seasoned intelligence officer of Rogue One. I'm interested in that arc and the grey area of spycraft, yet it feels like ultimately they're going to fall short given that there are only 9 episodes left in which to realise it unless it all of a sudden the current leisurely pace goes into overdrive and we see different missions being undertaken and realised at least every two episodes.GuLi wrote: Sat Apr 26, 2025 7:21 amI don't mind too much if it lacks a bit of action - I guess (I've not yet started watching Season 2, I'll wait until there are a few more episodes available) there's still the tension knowing a lot of grim stuff is afoot behind those glamorous scenes.sockwithaticket wrote: Sat Apr 26, 2025 12:01 am Given that season 2 is meant to be the last for Andor, it's started pretty slowly. I have been enjoying Seth Rogan's "The Studio" on Apple+.
but E6 - The Pediatric Oncologist was just brilliant.

Indeed - I was surprised with how good it was (They had to make big changes for TV).C69 wrote: Mon Apr 28, 2025 1:15 pm I just watched the first 2 seasons of Halo which were very good...
Only to realise they have now canned the series. Cunts
In other news, Tremors Reboot series with Kevin Bacon coming soon!

Quality series. Season 3's a stand-out, for mine. Sinéad Keenan's been the gaffer for the past couple of seasons, btw.Biffer wrote: Wed May 21, 2025 7:35 pm This isn’t new / returning, but I’ve been watching Unforgotten recently. British crime drama, investigating cold cases. Really, really good. Nicola Walker in the lead role. Available on ITVX and Disney+.

On the basis of the first episode I got The Thick Of It does Hollywood as the vibe. Pretty good.Insane_Homer wrote: Sun Apr 27, 2025 4:08 pm I have been enjoying Seth Rogan's "The Studio" on Apple+.

Brosnan is absolutely appalling in it, just doesn't fill his part at all. It's totally carried by Hardy and the magnificent Geoff Bell.GrahamWa wrote: Wed May 21, 2025 8:06 pm Another London related drugs family with Tom Hardy in the lead role with Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren as the Irish heads of family. Full of threat and utterly brilliant IMO. On Paramount or maybe a firestick if you chose.
It’s an excellent series. I’ve loved Nicola Walker as an actor since Spooks.Biffer wrote: Wed May 21, 2025 7:35 pm This isn’t new / returning, but I’ve been watching Unforgotten recently. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
I’d seen the change in gaffer happens, hadn’t realised they’re still making it though!Gumboot wrote: Wed May 21, 2025 7:51 pmQuality series. Season 3's a stand-out, for mine.
