Snyman was let go by Munster after playing a grand total of 373 minutes over four injury wrecked seasons (at allegedly € 400k per season). His agent approached the other Irish provinces as he wanted to stay in Ireland because his wife is doing her tax exams with PWC here (I think). Leinster offered him a pay for play contract, given his injury profile. He has to date played 464 minutes for Leinster in this season, and has had his contract extended, no doubt on more normal terms, for next season.SaintK wrote: Fri May 02, 2025 10:08 am...and Snyman and Slimani who aren't being paid by their respective unions?Camroc2 wrote: Thu May 01, 2025 9:40 pm Barrett is still under contract to the NZRU, and Leinster are paying him a top up for his six months or so in Dublin which has been reported to be in the region of € 250k. So he gets his normal NZRU contract payments, plus the € 250k for his 6 months. He also had what was essentially an off-season break during the 6 Nations.
Thirty five year old Slimani had announced his retirement from playing at Clermont, when Leinster made a late approach and he changed his mind. It is understood (I know, sources.......) that Leinster made a commitment to give him a coaching role when he finally retires. TBH he has far exceeded expectations, which were that he would be used with B/C team to add a bit of old school forward play. He got called up to the French squad, for the first time since 2019, for this years 6N. Who knew that not overplaying front row forwards allows them to play better !
