Yep, Mark Allen. He was a very popular inaugural captain of the Canes, and picked up a few test caps.Slick wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 4:15 am Gumboot, was it Bull Allen that used to play for Taranaki? That prop going through reminded me of him

Ahh, didn’t realise he went on to play for the Canes and get capped, a real local hero. This game bringing back a lot of incredible memories

Scotland scoring a few tries from kicking behind the defence. Some sublime, some lucky!
Good to see some of the fringe players showing up. Also a lot of them from the Premiership.

Yellow card was a nonsense. We’d had a couple of penalties in that sequence, fewer than the Māori had when we were attacking early.
Penalty count means nothing as a defense against persistent offending. You know this.
Persistent offending usually leads to a penalty count. Didn’t hear him giving repeated advantages for the infringing. Māori gave away four in seven minutes when we were down the other end. Feels off to me.Guy Smiley wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 4:32 amIn the red zone after a warning from the ref.Biffer wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 4:28 am Good first half that.

And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?
I have fond memories of Scotland's 1996 tour. Went to the Whanganui game which Scotland won well. My mates and I smuggled in a couple of hip flasks, and carried on into the night post game - bumped into John Hart, who had just begun his ABs coaching tenure.Slick wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 4:23 amAhh, didn’t realise he went on to play for the Canes and get capped, a real local hero. Scotland didn't fare so well in the test series. Up against an excellent ABs side tbf, featuring newbie Christian Cullen scoring tries at will.
Happy days!

Should really have taken more advantage of the 2 man advantage. Why not quick tap?

Scotland being Scotland. Failed to take their chances.
Clock was running during a couple of stoppages earlier I think. Tv not keeping up with the ref.Slick wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 5:23 amI wondered what happened, was counting down the minutes to go back to bed
