More shit news. For me he is still the greatest footballer to step onto a pitch, certainly the most exciting. I personally loved the way he played with such a chip on his shoulder and so much passion, he was a patriotic Argentine who would walk through walls for his country. You don't always see that in a footballer, least of one as talented as him.

He was a wizard, unbelievably strong and had such a burst of acceleration with a left foot that could make the ball do anything he wanted it to.

I agree with you 100% but at the same time I feel like the significance of Maradona cannot be boiled down to stats or trophies.

Players like him Cantona and George Best were not model professionals and you could argue that they did not achieve as much as they would have if they had lived healthier lifestyles or been more disciplined. However they excited and inspired people and in the long run I think that's a much richer legacy than winning boatloads of trophies in mechanical fashion.
