Weekend Match Threads Thread - 05/12/20
1). England forgotten how to play with all this kicking
2). Showing at the rucks. Wish more England forwards would stop standing off and slowing up the backline.

So much for Eddie's Orcs smashing their way over France C.

Great defence
France well up for this
Incredible

But there were so many times they could have gone to the backs. The only time they did was the wring time.

Oh. And Couilloud held Vunipola up over the line: Serin would have sh*t the bed.

No, most of these guys play far more inventively for their clubs (low bar...), but it's apparently all Eddie seems willing to let them try.Slick wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 2:43 pm Brilliant defence but is this really the best England can produce. I think they will still win this but it’s so turgid, dreadful to watch
It's clearly not the best we can produce, but it's what Eddie wants us to do.Slick wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 2:43 pm Brilliant defence but is this really the best England can produce. I think they will still win this but it’s so turgid, dreadful to watch
It's not a huge amount of time since we were playing good rugby with the same players.sockwithaticket wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 2:45 pmNo, most of these guys play far more inventively for their clubs (low bar...), but it's apparently all Eddie seems willing to let them try.Slick wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 2:43 pm Brilliant defence but is this really the best England can produce. That French 6 looks a real raw boned big fucker.
As usual, when we can't dominate up front, we have nothing else.

It appears so

Why do England play Farrell? He is not a very good player, except for decent place kicking. His defence is terrible (justice for Esterhuizen) and he can't direct an attack, and has no flair or vision. Do England need him because there is no other competent place kicker?

You can knock England for keeping it with the forwards, but most defences would have yielded under that pressure
This is a proper game of rugby.

But you lost a few games and Jones gets all obsessive about that.JM2K6 wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 2:46 pm It's not a huge amount of time since we were playing good rugby with the same players.
Well, we asked what would happen if Eng met a physical match and I guess we've seen the answer.

I should be fair and say although this is France C in Galthie's mind, there are a few players out there who should be in or are as good as the 1st choices.Longshanks wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 2:48 pm You can knock England for keeping it with the forwards, but most defences would have yielded under that pressure

A question many of us ask!Lemoentjie wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 2:47 pm Why do England play Farrell? He is not a very good player, except for decent place kicking. When coaches praise him they usually bang on about his attitude and how he drives standards in training. Which makes him sound like a great cheerleader or assistant coach. His contributions on the field are rarely seem to be more than we could get out of someone else.
We have three excellent goal kickers in Ford, Slade, and Daly. Farrell was dogshit at ten for a few games and has continued that form. At his best he makes good decisions, kicks brilliantly, and leads a ferocious defence. He's not often at his best.Lemoentjie wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 2:47 pm Why do England play Farrell? The tools are fine, however Eddie seems to be trying to use screw drivers as spanners or hammers to tighten nuts.tc27 wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 2:50 pm Not sure what we do from here with the tools we have.
They are getting outside our rush defence, returning our kicks well and matching our physicality and defence.
Yup, really frustrating. Slade, May, Daley, Anthony whatsisname all excellent runners and we never see them

And loads of good ball carriers in the pack who are only there to set up box kicks or bosh from 5m out.Slick wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 2:52 pmYup, really frustrating. Slade, May, Daley, Anthony whatsisname all excellent runners and we never see them
Quite, a back line like that behind those forwards should be a dreamJM2K6 wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 2:53 pmAnd loads of good ball carriers in the pack who are only there to set up box kicks or bosh from 5m out.

Even when the ball is loose on the floor Farrell tries to put his foot through it.

Attitude shouldn't ever be an issue for international rugby players, nor training standards. Although in reality it may be different, perhaps Jones doesn't want to upset the balancesockwithaticket wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 2:50 pmA question many of us ask!Lemoentjie wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 2:47 pm Why do England play Farrell?
