The pitch clearly still has some life in it. I reckon the BC bowlers will be looking forward to it.

We may as well drop Nicholls after this game. He has used up about 5 years worth of luck in this innings. 76* though.

220/5 and the average first innings score at the Basin is 212.

What do you think is a good score for this innings? Anything over 300? 350?

Craig Cumming and Macca were asked the same question earlier and Cumming said 250 whereas Macca reckoned over 300 ~ 350 would be a good score.

Nicholls gets his 100.

Has to be one of the jammiest test tons I've ever seen, but I guess it doesn't really matter how you score them.

This will be a road for days 2 and 3 I think. The more the better - good 300 - better, 380

It was a bizarre mixture of superb shots and shots that would have made Southee blush.

You take that every day I reckon after losing the toss. Pitch did plenty, plenty of pace, bounce, seam, and body blows. Think the number of 20-40 scores shows it's a pitch you're never really in on. Another 60-80 tomorrow morning is a very competitive score, anything more a bonus.

Nicholls one of the scratchiest and luckiest hundreds in recent memory, but the runs are on the board and might be just what he needed to play back into form.

Thought Will Young looked promising but he brings his bat down on an angle at times, and both dismissals so far he's been stuck on the crease. A couple of work-ons, but it's so refreshing to be in a position where if everyone's fit Young, Conway, Phillips, Mitchell probably all miss the XI with the likes of Seifert, Cleaver, Chapman, Ravindra, Neesham all floating around doing good things domestically or for NZA. Best batting bench strength I can remember.

84 overs with no bad light or rain delays is a shit effort, by the way. Really should be some reprimand.

The weather's looking good for another full day's play. Another hundred runs by Lunch would be nice...

294/6 is a great effort considering we were sent in on the greenest of green-tops and we are missing our best batsman. I think our bowling attack will do well on this pitch, and the WI batting lineup looks vulnerable.

Yep, we've done well so far. As we did after being sent in at Hamilton. Would like to see us go for quick runs from the start - can't see much point in playing for time with just Southee, Wagner and Boult to follow. I'm sure our pace bowlers can't wait to have a crack on this wicket.

Be interesting to see how we look back on this Nicholls century in a years time. Either just the bit of luck he needed to gain confidence and get back into the rhythm of scoring centuries, or a jammy innings that left him in the side too long while Conway/young rotted on the sidelines.

Hopefully when we do bowl we make early inroads

Anyone keeping a tally of WI dropped catches?

The Windies' catching (with the obvious exception of Holder's screamer yesterday) and ground fielding has been pretty damn ordinary.

Jamieson gone for 20, but that was another valuable 50-run partnership.

No prizes for guessing how Southee's going to bat...

Southee is looking controlled and just played a lovely on drive. Will it last?

Edit: it won’t - played on.

Don't bounce him if your field isn't assisting - york him.

It’s Wagner’s day when you pull out the rarely seen hook through backward point for four.

Doing a Southee but even better. BCs all out fo 460, a very decent total after being sent in and without KW.

They will be delighted with that. Lets hope that we can generate the chances that the Windies bowlers did - but hang on to them
