Any scientists come out and explained exactly how different this new December variant is from April Covid? Or should we just believe Professor Boris?

What's next for us then?

Notice they extended Fulough till the end April last week, but we’re unable to put today’s changes in front of Parliament while it still sat.

There’s been 1,000’s of strains known since the beginning of the pandemic, how this particular strain spreads more quickly is clearly the most hilarious lie.

Think now for all the coming tier 4’s who’ve ordered for the season (both business and personal) . And how they’ll cope.

This has been planned all along. They’re evil.

Well, we were going to spend Christmas with my parents, but that's out, so we have no food laid in. I will therefore improvise by foraging at the off licence which does a sideline in eclectic foodstuffs.

Christmas Dinner will consist of Polish sausage marinated in Sanatogen Original Tonic wine, served on a bed of Super Noodles, with a side order of scampi fries and pork scratchings. Pudding will be a family sized Galaxy bar garnished with the best of 3 packets for a pound Buzz sweets.

If the new strain has an R of 3.5 in tier 3 London already, then we are properly doomed regarding hospital admissions. They will be in the 1000’s a day in London by Xmas day.

There’s 100’s if not 1,000’s of variants in circulation. They even said they new it was 28% of infections in the middle of November, but the really crucial information became known just after Parliament and the courts etc are shut for Xmas.

What an unlucky thing to happen.

And you’ve got this the wrong way round, the shut down was advised by the scientists and this was planned as the most expedient way to enact it.

I’ll give even money that this new variant won’t be talked about post the end of lockdowns.

If it is this infectious and is all over London and the SE it will get everywhere. The number who will still leave for Christmas is not zero, and people have been moving anyway

It’s not a conspiracy theory. We know they’ve been lying about lots of this from the start. 4,000 deaths was a leap to far and got called, but there’s been plenty of that stuff all along.

It’s written into the official strategy regarding behaviour compliance technics from early Sage meetings.

Why when Hancock on Monday talked about the variant do we have a whole week until just after close of Parliament business for the discovery of it being “really” bad.

Come on.

59% of cases in the east are new variant, 62% in London. That does strongly suggest that it's very infectious to so quickly dominate the outbreak in those locations. Not what we needed.

It was over a 1/4 of infections a month ago. It suggests it’s the dominant variant in London and the southeast. The estimate of R they’ve given is either made up or the “variant” is normal .....

It's been kept on standby at a cost if £1.2 million per month since it was "shut down". Flick a switch and get the staff and it could accept patients tomorrow

Let’s be clear 1.2 million is absolutely fuck all in the scheme of things.

Considering 25% of our infections are occurring in hospital how we didn’t keep them actually open for “safe” areas or “covid” isolation is another crime.

Agree it's not really much money. But my point us that there's little to no work required for Nightingale London to accommodate patients.

Hospitals in London are currently less full than the same date last year. As I said though if the R is 3.5 nightingales will be needed in London this time next week.

I'll agree with you there Bimbo. After all the effort and money invested, and in the knowledge that things would get tough in the winter months, it's madness that these hospitals haven't been utilised properly.

Some of the health professionals that post on here might be able to give more detail but is the problem with the Nightengale’s throughout the U.K. a complete lack of staff to get them running in addition to existing capacity?

7 months and unlimited funds to change some of that. Also separation would have led to fewer hospital infections and staff absence.

They're still rolling through the over 80s and getting to the care homes. The pace is picking up - They're over 350K through the first dose now and that number will probably triple by Christmas Eve.

But, even with 4 million doses available by the end of the year they don't have enough for all the extreme risk and front line to get their first dose - and the delivery schedule itself is already slipping from Belgium as manufacturing is not as smooth and error free as hoped

I don’t think she can do. It’s her job. She can take 14 days off if she has symptoms. Not if she’s nervous.

She is a fairly senior physio, and semi retired so can always take up a teaching role. My feeling just now is to be ultra cautious until vaccination is well established. We've done 9 months of this shite so 3 more shouldn't be too bad

Is probably the right answer. Her trust Occie Health probably have a better idea than her management, but even they probably can't give her a date - they might be able to indicate a place in the queue.

I wouldn't have thought she would be seen as front line though - so her priority will likely be based on age and health risks

No OS, I'm just presenting and arguing for a POV that I feel quite strongly about. Now, as as happens from time to time, people are wrong on the internet. That really wouldn't be an issue, and wasn't previously in The Sensible Times, except now people being wrong on the internet frequently spills over to people being completely and utterly dangerously wrong ITRW , and being the all round good guy that I am, I am merely trying to prevent self harm spilling over to harm to others. It's a public service, really.
