Kenya and Tanzania have a lot saffer retailers and corporates. In Dar es Salaam in 2009, if I wanted to, I could buy a Vodacom SIM at a Vodashop, draw some cash at Standard Bank, buy some food at Shoprite and some flip flops at Mr Price and eat dinner at the Spur watching the rugby.

Regarding Wizzit, it's frustrating how time sensitive a lot of these technologies are. I great idea will only get you so far, timing is everything. Before every dominant technology today there was a failed competitor that had the exact same thing...just too in the wrong market or the wrong time.
Shoprite have just closed all of their shops in Kenya. A real shame, it was like being back in SA with all their goodies. Apparently they can't compete with CarreFour. Mr Price also folded here recently, rebranded to Mr. P and have a local owner but it's pretty awful. Woolworths do have shops here, but only clothes and prohibitively expensive.

Spur have been here a couple of years but I don't see them lasting. Just not their market, and not enough Saffa expats here to sustain.

But ABSA have recently taken over all the Barclays, but they're not much competition for the big local banks here.
Mr. Price rebranded in SA as Mr.P as well.

Ja, many SA retailers are pulling back a bit after being burnt expanding into the rest of Africa. It's a tough market to compete in given all the variables, particularly logistics and price when they just don't have the economy of scale to be as competitive as they are at home. But it's the same challenge US retailers and chains face when trying to break into the SA market, so not unique.

On Friday an IT Nerd from Head Office came to fix our printers. He was in the back offices, reception and gents loo as well as the spaces leading to and from. He was exposed to 4 colleagues.
On Sunday he goes for a jog, is short of breath and develops a cough and headache. He goes to the Hospital, they test him. Sunday afternoon he gets the positive SMS. He then informs the company who then phones the hotel and speaks with our reservation manageress. Instead of informing us and having the offices decontaminated she does vokol. We have a meeting in the offices yesterday and colleagues continue to work in them. At 12h00 she decided to mention to the Housekeeper about the Covid case.
So now it is finish up lunch, get all the guests out, send the staff home, get the people in to decontaminate etc etc. What a fukken circus. We had to cancel restaurant bookings for the night etc. Fortunately we had no overnight guests. She buggers off because suddenly she isn't feeling well and must go for a screening.

How irresponsible of this fukken woman? She has potentially exposed all of us due to her carelessness.
FFS! Goodluck man. What an idiot. I take it none of you guys have the Covid Alert app installed on your phones? (Not judging, just asking)

It's such a useful way to find out if you've been in close proximity to somebody that has tested positive. No middle-woman that forgets or decides not to inform you.
I have it and there has been no alert.

This. I have a mate who was big into and talking to all the major banks about biometrics 10 years ago. Couldn't get any traction and eventually gave up. Other providers have since stepped into the gap.

Once we've all had our Bill Gates Covid-19 vaccine, I assume we can use the 5G microchips that are going to be planted inside of us as some sort of a tap and go payment system?

It's not enough to be a visionary genius. You need to be a visionary with either perfect timing OR have backers with deep enough pockets to sustain you until the market is ready...whenever that might be.

Very tricky.

Ja; the tech that was patient zero probably didn't have the app installed. If he did and registered his positive diagnosis, and you all had it as well, everybody that was within a couple of meters of him would have gotten a notification.

To date I've gotten 4 alerts...twice on days I went to Canal Walk for grocery shopping, once when I only went out to Makro that day to stock up on booze, and one on the day I was returning from Plett from clearing out my Gran's flat after she passed from Covid. Must have been at one of the petrol stations on the way home.

Fortunately no symptoms on any of those days, but it's amazing how your mind starts playing ticks on you when you suspect you might have been exposed. Suddenly your throat starts feeling scratchy all the damn time for any little thing...

Have you seriously not stumbled over the internet conspiracies about Covid and Bill Gates?
You tend to forget how people's exposure to internet memes and bubbles differ by generation etc.

There's a disturbingly large and loud amount of people that believe:
a. Covid 19 was developed intentionally by Bill Gates
b. So that people will take the vaccines that he is championing
c. Which are actually microchips that will not only track you
d. But also mind-control you and make every infertile...

Assfly was only kiddding...or was he?

I posted it in it's own thread yesterday, but it didn't get any traction. Maybe its too long or not as interesting as I thought, but it's fascinating to me how conspiracy theories originate and propagate, and who is susceptible to them and why.

That's awful news. It makes one afraid of what could happen in our poorer communities who cram a lot of people into 1 house/flat/wendy.

Funerals is one of the biggest problems, but I'm not sure the ANC wants to take the risk to ban funerals, they will lose a lot of voters.

Some of my family from the KZN midlands, farmers post weird shit about Q on FB. There is a link with Farmers lives matter and feeds into their paranoia. Post about child smuggling networks and the global elite. These are wealthy farmers who went to Hilton, Michaelhouse, Weston. There are expat Saffers in Texas who are brainwashing them. One of my cousins is heavily into it but his Facebook rantings stopped abruptly after the Capitol storming incident.

The Q stuff is nuts. Especially when you start digging and finding out who the figures behind it all are and what their motives are.

But there is no convincing the adherents. Once you’ve been “red-pulled” you basically need cult-deprogramming tactics to get the people out. It’s scary how effective it has been.

Over 50 you need an investment visa. Need to buy an existing business or open a business in Aus...on average around 4.5 bar. The costs to emigrate. A house as you won't be able to get financing. Around 3.5 bar. Working capital and spending money for a year at least. I can't remember it all but we worked out around 11 bar

Thats Aus. NZ is a bit easier.

If I passed away it would be a lot easier for the missus. Insurance and property would cover that. Selling the business's the cream. Besides she is 15 years my junior so a lot less restrictions. But I am a selfish p$#s and just wont die. Only the good die young

You have a pool and you are still bitching? Playing cricket and having a swim, there's not much to complain about. Think about the less fortunate people (children) in SA and then evaluate your situation again.
