I remember when the English Premiership restarted, there were in a similar position. Lots of penalties and lots of kicking. But somehow they managed to remove the shackles and lately the rugby has been great.

We definitely need to vary our approach. It's one dimensional to the extreme.

Rassie will need to have a word as director of rugby. These last 2 weeks have been painful to watch.

And herein lies the conundrum. Nice rugby isn't always winning rugby.
Sure.
However......................when you look at the Boks at the RWC both 2007 and 2019 they played brutal, high paced and skilful rugby. It wasn't pretty but it was very effective and made for a good watch. What we saw during the CC was MOSTLY limp wristed, slow and unskilled rugby.
The Lions showed a lot of endeavour and a bit more skill than the rest of teams. The Bulls played very nice rugby at times. The Cheetahs, Griquas and Pumas tried. The WP and Sharks played terrible rugby throughout. They tried to emulate the Boks, but the players were unable to show any real effectiveness in playing that game, except for Kitshof, who was brilliant throughout the season. There is a huge problem with the coaches. Mbonambi goes from superb to not being able to hit the barn, never mind the barn door. Malherbe can't scrum. Kolisi becomes Cap'n Invisible. Jantjies becomes Junkies. Willemse turns into a turd. Am & Nkosi are negated by a 10 who can't fukken pass and kicks every ball away.

I am pretty happy with the Sharks effort. Newish coach who will no doubt have learned some good lessons this year. Had a great start to the abandoned Super rugby tourney and played some cracking rugby.
Great to have a leader like Eduard Coetzee at the helm and the new investors add a lot if security.
Hopefully we can hang on to the players this year. We pushed a strong Bulls team all the way to the end and did great for such a young squad. I foresee patchy results for a year or two until we can develop a gun pack. This is where the focus will be in recruiting.
Granted they didn't look very fluent during the CC but the experience given to the youngsters is awesome. These players all had plenty of game time and there is still guys like Evan Roos, Boeta Chamberlain and Hanro Jacobs. waiting in the wings.

JJ is a beast...he looks like a prop and plays like a demon. You can actually see the joy in his eyes...when I saw the introduction video when he joined the Sharks I was impressed. Couldn't understand why the Lions let him go. I think he still has lots to offer. We do need someone else like a Dan du Preez. Lions have Alberts, Bulls have Duane. Those players wear out the opposition and keep players busy.FalseBayFC wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 7:15 pm I am pretty happy with the Sharks effort. Very disappointed in our CC season. It's not Sharks rugby. These kids and Everett need to take their focus off making the boks and concentrate on playing the rugby we saw in Super Rugby. Making the boks is too personal. They need to focus on setting the NH alight with traditional Sharks rugby.

That side is full of legends.
Look. There is a lot to say about the quality of rugby lately. This phenomenon of kicking the leather off the ball is a recent development for the Sharks. Its not how we play the game and Rassie has a lot to answer for in this regard. This is his game plan and what he is looking for in his team. Its limited. A bad day with the boot and it's game over.
Up until the Currie Cup started we were running the ball around in the last Superrugby tournament and leading the tournament. I feel the pressure of the BIL tournament is causing our teams to focus on what Rassie is looking for rather than the natural game.
I doubt very much the BIL tour will happen.
I am still bitter we dropped the Kiwis. They really helped to define our rugby. Some of our sides swam and some sunk . But we were forced to be more skillfull.

WP don't need money to buy players, they will just bring young ones through their strong structures.
Springbok players like Kitshoff and Malherbe is true WP products. They were born in Streep truie.
There will be young ones like them and Thomas Tank, waiting their change to get through and then there will be wise students coming from Durban and KZN going to Maties and Ikeys because local there is vokol opportunities to study and play sport.

However the WP will need money to keep players.
They must be careful or they will turn into the new VRYSTAAT. Good schools, produce good players, go to good Varsity while playing good Rugby. Then get poached because the Union is a disaster and funds are limited.
Already people are referring to the WP as clown college.

Sad to see Glenwood boy Jaco Coetzee leave. Luckily WP have another Glenwood star Nama Xaba on the flank. They sent us Evan Roos though so can't complain.
Oom who was that freak no. 8 from one of Paarl schools. Gideon someone I think. Is he playing u21?

The Kings will have to field Grey High and Dale matrics. All their players have fucked off elsewhere. Maybe they can coax Luke Watson out of retirement.
Hopefully they will, at least, play dynamic rugby and show some skill. The World Cup-winning captain Kolisi’s playing future has been under the spotlight ever since the Sharks’ partnership with MVM Holdings was officially unveiled.
MVM Holdings, an international investment consortium spearheaded by Marco Masotti, entered into an agreement to purchase a 51 percent majority stake in the Sharks with the KwaZulu-Natal Rugby Union and SuperSport International holding the remaining 49 percent of the franchise.
With millions of dollars flooding into Durban, the franchise is set to be significantly strengthened over the next few years through player acquisitions and Kolisi’s name has popped up on numerous occasions
One of MVM Holdings’ partners is Vincent Mai, who has a very close relationship with Kolisi. The Springbok captain was the first recipient of the Vincent Mai Bursary Scheme, which allowed him to attend prestigious Grey High in Port Elizabeth.
Kolisi also has a management deal with Roc Nation Sports International. The company’s president, Michael Yormark, is also one of Masotti’s partners.
While Kolisi along with the Stormers have denied the rumour mill, Netwerk24 recently reported that the Cape Town franchise have accepted a million rand offer from the Sharks.

The media outlet also revealed that the transfer is set to be announced this week.
