So in a nutshell, me and my wife lived in the UK between 1999 and 2010. My kids were born there (and why we are currently applying for their UK passports).
My wife is South African but now holds a UK passport and myself and the kids have Dutch passports.
My boss in South Africa has allowed me to work for them from anywhere really. We considered Holland but neither my wife nor the kids are Dutch speaking.
We thought about going back to the UK but since Brexit, that has become a bit more complicated. Especially since my wife as the UK passport holder has to have earning of at least 18500 Pounds per annum in the 6 months prior to my visa application (I think it is the right to settle scheme or a spousal visa), but you also need to have about 16000 Pounds of savings. This is to make sure you don't rely on the state for support. Never mind I have a home in the UK, a UK bank account, I pay my tax to HMRC every year since I rent my house out, and of course I have already made national insurance contributions between 1999 and 2010.
So possibly the most convenient option would be Ireland.
If I'm not mistaken, Ireland have an arrangement with the UK that UK nationals can easily settle in Ireland (without the financial consideration as a requirement) and of course as an EU citizen, I can move there without any problems.
So my Irish citizens, any reason why I should or shouldn't consider living in your country. And where should we live.
I'm not really interested in the expensive areas in or near Dublin. Not sure about Limerick or Cork either but I've heard great things about Waterford.
Advise please.
What's It Like To Live In Ireland
Never lived there myself, but my best mate moved over a couple of years ago from South East England and I don't think he will move back now, he and his family love it.
They are out in the country about 40min drive from Dublin.

Yes. I just had a meeting with my cousin here in Cape Town who is a tax advisor.
She'll be doing our financial emigration - so we are really looking forward to making the move.
With hindsight we should never have made the move from the UK to South Africa though it was the right thing to do at the time. And it has been great for my career.
But other then that, we do regret it.

It's much better than you'd think. The real wankers spend all their time on a message board so you never see them

It's shit. Haven't you heard all of the Irish want to live in Australia. Legions of them here the utter knackers. Pouncing around in their tracksuit bottoms and gaelic/hurling shirts.
Pond filth......

My cousin would echo much of that. Other than the weather.

At least we are not a plague colony like yourself hey? Must say i am enjoying the freedoms associated with a country that is not run like a clownshop. Might duck off to my local for a refreshing ale shortly. Face it you lot drew the short straw in many ways. Little loser nation.CM11 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 12:15 pmOnce a penal colony, always a penal colony.Green light echo wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 10:50 amHappyhooker wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 9:59 am It's much better than you'd think. No wonder so many of you would crawl over broken glass to live in Australia. You all drape yourselves in your flag but no one wants to live in Ireland. At least the Irish dont. Only desperate Eastern Europeans.
We don't won't you though, more than enough knackers here already to be going on with.....

Jaysus, you're an incredibly pathetic person, aren't you?
I think the Irish are going through a major image change. I mean, the old image of leprechauns, shamrock, Guinness. Horses running through council estates. Toothless simpletons. People with eyebrows on their cheeks. Badly tarmacked drives. Men in platform shoes being arrested for bombings. Lots of rocks, and Beamish. I think people are saying “Yes, there’s more to Ireland than this”.
