Weegies hadn't played for weeks and it showed. Hastings was a bit meh, just like a guy coming back from injury who needed game time. Nakawara is a spent force and not too disappointed to see him off at the end of the season. He doesn't look fit and at his age, not fully recovered from injury and focus gone he would have been an expensive option for next season. This season is a write off for the Scottish teams and best to not get too worried or downbeat about it. some of these guys have played very few games all season and even less for their club team. Trying to get anything going this season is just not on, Ulster looked far more match fit and sharper at the key moments and looked like they have played with each other more, which they have! With a few more games under their belt and one or two of their strike runners back from injury and I reckon we would have seen a different result.I like neeps wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 3:51 pmHastings is underrated. To say Hastings to Weir isn't a pretty big downgrade is errrr.clydecloggie wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 3:38 pm Glasgow were pretty rank yesterday, lots of huff and puff but little else.
Ulster defence was magnificent, guys like Jones kept running into heavy traffic where they normally would have a few line breaks here an there - and that was all down to Ulster excellence.
Hastings tried to run too much for me, a bit more mixing it up would be better. But he showed his class, I really think he will be a big miss next season.

Yes, seems like a mistake or windup from an idiot mate...I like neeps wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 5:11 pmUnless he did it after the match somehow he's fine. Last play of the game he put Sam Skinner in for a try and was totally unscathed.

I have wasted too much of my life watching Grant Gilchrist play rugby. He's an ineffective lump.
It's always the TH side, the whole game of rugby starts from there,
I'm not kidding

Not sure what has happened to Schoeman this year, nowhere near the level he was at last year where he was consistently dominant even in the second string games.
Willemse can’t be better than our youth players.
Turgid stuff made all the more frustrating by the fact that Edinburgh actually have a really good squad.

Some call ups to Scotland. Notable are Bath 6/second row Josh Bayliss who impressed me when I watched Cam Redpath for Bath, I venture he's our 6 in Paris. Jamie Dobie who I guess gets on the bench as why else call him up? Was training with the squad anyway. Hastings is back so hopefully the last we see of Van Der Walt and Sam Johnson is back probably to start 12. Redpath out injured. As are blade and Gary Graham.

Nice. Sounds promising.I like neeps wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 6:01 pmFrom the Bath games I've seen he's a big abrasive 6 who's solid. Pretty good at everything. Quite excited he's Scottish.
I just realised Ritchie isn't long term injured so imagine Ritchie will play 6.

Good that he’s in, but Richie, Crosbie, Bradbury, Graham all probably best at 6. Darge and Boyle coming through from what I hear are similar. My kingdom for a big abrasive lad who’s favoured position is 8.Begbie wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 6:04 pmNice. Crosbie, Bradbury and Gary Graham could all be massively improved upon. Boyle is a 7 and Darge has played 8 for Melrose and the under20s.KingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 6:55 pmGood that he’s in, but Richie, Crosbie, Bradbury, Graham all probably best at 6. I’d say only a bit of an improvement. He’s a skilful player but is not a strong 10. Unless the game plan is for the playmaker to be at the bottom of a ruck for half the game.

Did well last six nations and has been very good for Glasgow when they've done well getting to the final etc. A very good young 10.Soapy wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 7:03 pmI’d say only a bit of an improvement. Ahead of Skinner?
Does Townsend watch games at all?

From a Scotland point of view I do want him to do well but he’s got huge flaws in his game that he doesn’t appear to be able to address.
He’s poor at making decisions, bringing others into the game and is constantly taking contact because he’s dithered and charged up a blind alley.
I hope he improves - he’s got natural skills - but as a 10 to lead a team he is very average.

He's great at bringing others into the game! That's his strength. He has a good kicking from hand game, nice variations, plays flat - takes the ball to the line. Picks out players running good lines.
He needs to improve his decision making but so does Finn Russell! And every 10 playing.
And what's the alternative? Van Der Walt is terrible.

That sums up my views more articulately than I would have.Soapy wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 8:00 pmI don’t see it at all.I like neeps wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 7:20 pmDid well last six nations and has been very good for Glasgow when they've done well getting to the final etc. A very good young 10.

The stats disagree.
All of which he showed against Ulster on Friday night...... but he is probably the next best option , hopefully Thomson or Chamberlain can make the step upJock42 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 8:36 pmThat sums up my views more articulately than I would have.Soapy wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 8:00 pmI don’t see it at all.I like neeps wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 7:20 pm

Lager & Lime - we don't do cocktails
Undoubtedly and he's had some really good games when on form, not consistent with it though.Dogbert wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 8:58 pmAll of which he showed against Ulster on Friday night...... but he is probably the next best option , hopefully Thomson or Chamberlain can make the step upJock42 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 8:36 pmThat sums up my views more articulately than I would have.Soapy wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 8:00 pm

I think all that is all outrageously harsh. He’s a young guy with much more pressure on him than anyone else because of his dad. He’s not perfect but he is a bloody good player and came in after the Finn huff and played really well at international level. He certainly has the odd brain fart but is a very good all round 10.
I’m very close to preferring him over Finn at the moment.
