Americas Cup - Official Thread
The two boats are very very similar in performance. This race is on - Italians have the better Skipper/Tactician in my opinion but Kiwis have home course advantage.
Two very amateurish tacks from the Kiwis in Race 2 cost them any chance of catching up

I thought the LR ballsed up around the mark massively on about the 4th. Let the kiwis back in to it, though they had enough gap to just stay ahead.
Speed wise. ETNZ had a little more downwind. And LR able to minimise the length of the speed dips better in tacks, and were much sharper acceleration post manoeuvre.
In any case, great first day. I just can’t believe after all that time not racing each other and they come out this close speed wise.
I wonder what upgrades are left on each boat.

Hope you guys are having fun.
Got some words from Loic Perron you may remember him he was sailing a Swiss challenger in 2010.
He was talking about the America's cup.
He said while he was inside it was fantastic however from the outside it's pretty and fast however it's dull.
Also he said the the French sailing world has much better stories to tell (with offshore racing) on a much smaller budget. (1/10th for vendée)
His conclusion the French are never going to be competitive in America's cup.
I am afraid I agree.

You could be talking about the RWC.laurent wrote: Wed Mar 10, 2021 7:56 am Hope you guys are having fun.

The French are interested in the RWC, always have been after all without Ferasse there would not have been one...Kiwias wrote: Wed Mar 10, 2021 8:05 amYou could be talking about the RWC.laurent wrote: Wed Mar 10, 2021 7:56 am Hope you guys are having fun.

There are no French sponsors that would fork out 100M for America's when they get much more coverage for 1/10 or less of the budget doing offshore racing (also the Boats last a lot longer).
I love sailing but in all seriousness the A cup does not come near trans oceanic or round the world sailing for entertainment value or adventure.
Don't be so defensive. Groupama did not spend any where near the cash needed to have a shot. They have sponsored a lot of sailing stuff and still do however I don'tbelieve the previous challenge was as expensive as this one.
I was only relaying what a respected sailor was saying.
Not sure why I bothered...

Grrr - Team NZ set themselves up in a good position prestart and the race is postponed because the bloody Jafas cannot keep their boats out of the course. BBB - was that you?
New start time 1623 so 7 minutes away

Race 3 is done and dusted.Ymx wrote: Fri Mar 12, 2021 3:43 am Doesn’t feel like there is a way back in to race 3.
Commentators suggest larger foils massively helping LR.
Not sure why ETNZ are again on the little foils.
Can ETNZ change foils between races?

It’s insane to think what’s at stake here.
Such a huge campaign on both sides. Winner takes ownership of the next campaign hosting, class, rules, venue.
And with such small errors deciding races at the moment.
Pushing a wrong button could ultimately decide the cup as we get closer to the magic 7.
