The Official Scottish Rugby Thread
I’ve just found out that the U20s beat Wales 52-17 in Colwyn Bay a year ago. Somehow missed this completely amongst all of the Covid shite. Now feeling annoyed because I live not far from Colwyn Bay, I’ve been to these matches before, and somehow I didn’t go to this one.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

I think Nathan Chamberlain scored a hat trick in that game

Yeah, I agree. Unfortunately the Wales game burst my optimism bubble. I expect us to be losing but within a score at half time before errors and lack of discipline allow them to pull away to a 15 point win in the second half.
Yeah, pretty much how I see it going too.KingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 12:23 pmYeah, I agree. Unfortunately the Wales game burst my optimism bubble. Me too. While our best Lions prospects are totally outplayed or injured.Slick wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 12:38 pmYup, +1Begbie wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 12:34 pmYeah, pretty much how I see it going too.KingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 12:23 pm

Double bugger. I can’t quite believe it. Normally I’d at least see a Twitter update, but I’d definitely have remembered a win of that magnitude in my own back yard!KingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 12:21 pmYeah, I think you are right.Tichtheid wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 11:29 amYr Alban wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 11:21 am I’ve just found out that the U20s beat Wales 52-17 in Colwyn Bay a year ago. Turns out the game is still available on YouTube, so that’s pencilled in for a watch now

I have zero optimism for tomorrow’s game. As has been said, the Wales game burst the bubble and we have a few players missing. Hope I’m wrong but I think we’ll lose tomorrow, with at least 1 serious injury to a major player, then Beat Italy and lose to France for a pretty shit tournament.
I’m there too. If we had kept 15 on the pitch v Wales and held on to what, in 6N terms, was a massive lead, or if the final play had been called correctly and we had won, then we’d be 2 for 2 and approaching this game with our tails up. Instead I’m looking at it and seeing nothing but another game where Ireland will strangle the life out of us and win by 10. They’ve done it plenty before and I see no reason to think this will change tomorrow. Hope they prove me wrong of course, but I can’t summon up any optimism at all.Tattie wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 5:35 pm I have zero optimism for tomorrow’s game. It was played with no crowd, families only. So you couldn't have gone anyway.Yr Alban wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 1:27 pmDouble bugger. I can’t quite believe it. Well that was unexpected. Edinburgh played 25 minutes against 14 men without looking like scoring (one pen was all they managed) and then Nathan Chamberlain pops up at 80+3 with a try under the sticks to win the game.
Ironically after barely getting any game time this season, Cockerill let him play on with a clear foot injury for 30+ minutes because he didn’t trust his replacement (Savala).

Just saw the Embra result. Operation ‘unlikely run for 3rd’ very much on for both pro teams!

Rumours on Twitter this morning that the Pro16 will be on sky next year. While Premier Sports has been frustrating in its shite feed pro Irish coverage at times, £80 for every game was great value. By the time you buy the cheapest sky package and then the sports package I presume it will be c.£50-60 per month. I struggle to see what sky will do that justifies the extra £500 I will have to pay for the same (or probably less) content.
Assuming we're allowed back in, I'll have my season ticket, take a few NowTV passes for big games and go to the pub.KingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 10:38 am Rumours on Twitter this morning that the Pro16 will be on sky next year. Also mention of a 'significant' free to air element, whatever that ends up being.

Gatland would see to that. Warrenball doesn't tolerate errors.

Cherry has to start Vs Italy. Why a change wasn't made earlier is anyone's guess.

That's two error strewn poor structure no mentality defeats in games we maybe should've won. It's a coaching problem, it's that simple.
The unlikely comeback has made my pit of despair a shallower one, but I just don’t understand how we do this to ourselves. Only Scotland can manage that kind of comeback and still fuck it up at the death. Just like 38-38, which would have literally been a game for the ages if we had held on for the win. When other teams do it to us (like Wales did) we obligingly roll over for them and lose, as the script dictates.
