The Official Italian Rugby Fred - Innocenti OUT!
Marco Riccioni headed to Sarries: https://www.onrugby.it/2021/02/24/marco ... -saracens/
So whilst the national team was busy hitting rock bottom against Wales, the FIR elections were also taking place. And the result was (to me at least) quite surprising, Alfredo Gavazzi who these last 8 years has overseen Italian rugby officially turning to shit has been given the boot. Marzio innocenti, captain at the '87 world cup is the new president of the FIR. He recieved 56% of the vote, runner up was Paolo Vaccari with 40%. Gavazzi got a paltry 3.2% so it seems that the Italian rugby community is as fed up as I am!
It remains to be seen what he will do (what can he do?) to turn things around. Certainly there's no magic wand he can wave to fix all of our problems, but at least we don't have a total clown in charge

That's astonishing for an incumbent! What was the platform for change put forward?
Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot, But he'll remember with advantages, What feats he did that day
Yeah, I was expecting a close race with the opponents all taking votes off each other and Gavazzi sneaking it. 3% of the vote shows just how bad it's gotten!Paddington Bear wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 1:33 pm That's astonishing for an incumbent! What was the platform for change put forward?
There's a very long interview with him here: https://www.onrugby.it/2021/01/16/elezi ... innocenti/
The big promises are to change the way the academy system is working, completely revamp the domestic competitions and try to get more integration between club, pro14 and national team. Also he says he wants to address rugby's image in Italy of a parochial and badly run sport.

Anybody named Innocenti gets my vote because of this:sturginho wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 12:06 pm So whilst the national team was busy hitting rock bottom against Wales, the FIR elections were also taking place. Interview with Minozzi: https://metadellaltromondo.gazzetta.it/ ... e-ci-sono/
He very nearly lost his sight. They don't know what caused it but believe it may have happened when he broke his nose playing against England. Fluid began to build up on the eye, but he didnt notice that anything was wrong until the champions cup match against clermont. Doctors then told him that one blow could have detached the retina completely!
He's recovering from a knee injury and should be back in a couple of weeks, so should be ok to play in the AIs. The article also mentions that Capuozzo is in line for a call up (finally!)

Well I do know the answer to your second question, this U18 team is coached by Roberto Santamaria (ex Aironi hooker)

Does Steve Aboud get much coverage in Italy?
Youths seem to be getting better over time.

Perhaps not as much as he deserves, but I think it's no coincidence that since he's been working in Italy the youth teams have suddenly seen a big improvementUncle fester wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 1:31 pm Does Steve Aboud get much coverage in Italy?

Yes he is, but he may be available against England
Two Cents rugby did a video about number of foreign born players in each squad and Italy only had 6, however there's several players missing like Ioane, Halafihi, Nemer, Faiva who would be in the squad if available who would bump those numbers up
