So, looking online, Russian made Black isn't available in the UK..Russian made Black is the dogs bollocks, any boredies outside of the UK can source it? Pretty please. ...

Good post key issues like this are what internet boards should be used for.
Trust me I'm not making this up.

Vodka is the spirit with least variation in taste I find, certainly compared to Whiskey, gin, rum and brandy out of the big groups.
I like Arbikie, a Scots one made from spuds - the fact I got pissed up with the owner and have numerous bottles for free has nothing to do with this decision

That is because it is the purest of all the spirits, and the one least likely to give you a hangover, but there are some significant differences in tastes if you have the palette. Belvedere v Zubrovka v Crystal Skull all different tastes, Absolut not bad but avoid the Smirnoff Pond Water.Yeeb wrote: Thu Jul 16, 2020 8:40 am Vodka is the spirit with least variation in taste I find, certainly compared to Whiskey, gin, rum and brandy out of the big groups.

Sadly the hangover thing just isn’t correct for me, usually because I only have the great decision to move onto spirits after about 7 pints of beer or cider.ASMO wrote: Thu Jul 16, 2020 8:42 amThat is because it is the purest of all the spirits, and the one least likely to give you a hangover, but there are some significant differences in tastes if you have the palette. Clean, unpretentious and value for money... besides the Fins kicked the Ruskies butts in war and vodka. The deciding factor with vodka is take it straight and the condiments. Gherkins, brown bread, boiled or fried potatoes with it, bread, sausage, cheese, oily fish. I like red caviar on buttered brown bread. Just a little snack after every slug to grease your stomach lining.
I like my vodka ice cold, completely different taste and it heats you up in seconds.

I haven't had vodka for a while. I want it!
In Poland they make a drink called Cytrynówka, most bars sell it for a few zloty's a shot. Basically a home made Lemon vodka type drink which has an insidious kick. It is part Spritus (basically pure alchohol), half normal vodka, a whole bundle of lemons and some honey...every household makes their own, its bloody delicious. I have made my own and it was suprisingly good. They also use it as a medicine to ward off colds, flu, covid, bubonic plague and the like.
That sounds... strangely attractive.ASMO wrote: Fri Jul 17, 2020 7:54 am In Poland they make a drink called Cytrynówka, most bars sell it for a few zloty's a shot. You can also use it to strip armour from a T72 tank.MungoMan wrote: Fri Jul 17, 2020 8:15 amThat sounds... strangely attractive.ASMO wrote: Fri Jul 17, 2020 7:54 am In Poland they make a drink called Cytrynówka, most bars sell it for a few zloty's a shot. Its really nice, i usually make it in batches of 2 liters, thats about 15-20 lemons needed for that amount and keep the bottles in the freezer.

A few years back I used a few 1.25l bottles of strongish dutyfree vodka plus a bottle of pissweak bottleshop vodka, diluted somewhat with cheap local dry sherry plus brown sugar, in making a limoncello type drink but with mandarins from our backyard tree.
I think it was good. Hard to tell, what with the brain injury and all...

I like how Russians drink vodka in movies, it's almost like they're thirsty for it.

Potato vodka definitely has a different taste
My father in law would cut you...he is Ukrainian by birth. I used to bring him all these vodkas (from Grey Goose to Titos to Ketel One, etc) and he always goes back to Smirnoff. I always ask him why, and he says that when he drinks vodka he wants some taste, and that Smirnoff is a true vodka as it has a little bite.ASMO wrote: Thu Jul 16, 2020 8:42 amThat is because it is the purest of all the spirits, and the one least likely to give you a hangover, but there are some significant differences in tastes if you have the palette. The only other ones he drinks that I bring him is the Beluga brands (thanks to my Russian friends) and the Debowa.

This was quite a revelation for me. On my first visit to Poland to meet an ex girlfriends parents the dad and I arsed a bottle one evening in shots. Felt pretty pissed but woke up the next day feeling fine.ASMO wrote: Thu Jul 16, 2020 8:42 amThat is because it is the purest of all the spirits, and the one least likely to give you a hangover, but there are some significant differences in tastes if you have the palette. An odd experience was going to a Polish wedding where there was literally nothing else to drink but vodka the whole day/night.
