Slick wrote: Thu Mar 25, 2021 11:10 am So what do we actually have to do to come 2nd? Just win? Or win with a bonus point? Keep them to no bonus point?

By my reading of the table we have to win by more than seven, oh and we have to get the same try bp as France, zero or one.
Or win by 5 but with a try bonus point while denying them a try bonus point.

Loads of ways! Very difficult, difficult ways.
Agreed lots of variations. However as has already been pointed, all of these variations still mean England are fifth.

Matt Fagerson is out. Haining to start and Batman called up to the bench.

We should get to play a joker, once every three 6 Nations or so, get Bill Mata starting for this one.

As long as France don't get Kolbe.

Got to think that CdP would have been high on the list, but that limit of five English players again.
And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?

We are really getting shafted here. These arrangements are 100% to the benefit of France. We’re being set up to lose, the only question being whether we lose by enough to change the destination of the title.

To be honest I don't think it's going to affect us all that much although I would have liked to see Maitland start. I do think it's pretty average that the 6N have negotiated just 5 players though, would it really matter to the integrity of the Premiership if it was 7 or 8, and that's all it would have been anyway. I could see putting maybe a 2 or 3 player limit per club but 7 or 8 spread over all 12 teams, get fucked.

Sounds like the boys are fairly angry. I like how Hogg has made it all about the squad though, and the boys missing out, rather than about the French being fuds. Publicly anyway, it's fairly clear he'd love to let rip, but as he says, doesn't want to create headlines. He's really growing in to the captaincy.

He really is, I was all for making Ritchie captain and giving him a couple of years to get to the level required at the next world cup, but Hogg has, as you say, really stepped up.

It's also good to see Ritchie named as VC.

Ever since he started as captain he has lead the team really well. He went through a rough patch in his form but his leadership is good. I really like his style of captaincy and for many reasons I think he is our best captain in the last number of years. Perhaps back to Jason White.

I am still on the Hogg for Lions captain bandwagon, I don't expect him to get it but he should captain some games and it will be on merit IMO.

Realistically we had no chance of Champions Cup qualification with these games in hand.

Yeah maybe blue tinted glasses but I think we’re getting the shitty end of the stick. That scrum where we destroyed them - reset, french put in, should have been a penalty to us in front of the posts IMO. Also blatant forward pass, possibly two in the lead up to Hogg’s card.

There is zero chance that that is a red card. Barnes couldn’t wait to give it, either.

A good 6n for Scotland, two long standing monkeys off our back, and two close defeats . One of which if a penalty had be rightly awarded at the death would have been another win.

These guys are in a good place.

I'd have bitten your arm off for wins at Twickenham and Paris, two very narrow losses and a thumping of Italy before the tournament started.

I will take that. Oh yes, I will take that. Thank you so very much.

Maybe we were a bad penalty call away from the title, but sod it. This has to rank as a good 6N now.

Given we had to play with a handicap because France broke the Covid rules, and then they took the piss about it, I’m very happy to hand the title to Wales. Karmic debt paid for 1999.

What am I missing when Watson is not talked about as a nailed on Lions starter. No one offers the complete game he does.
