I wonder how many guitarists could be identified simply by ear: assuming they were not playing a well known piece of theirs?
Johhny Marr would be among very few I suspect. Hendrix simply because very few people could do what he could.
Neil Young and Jimmy Page perhaps?

That's kind of what I was getting at when I started the thread. Joey Santiago has a unique style that is incredibly distinctive. Not a technical wizard but provides the key textures that make the Pixies what they are.
