Bugger, missed the first 30 minutes but the last 10 was entertaining. Chiefs seem to be getting the rub of the green, couple of forward passes, player tackled in the air... Is the ref a bit of a homer?

Mikaele-Tu’u subbed off after just 45 minutes.
Harsh but fair.

I tell you what, Nugget with his quick accurate passing has got the Clan backline working a treat, as good as Fakatava is, nobody comes close to Smith.

Chiefs still winless in this competition.
Landers are jammy af tho. Nareki singlehandedly swung the momentum in this game. Otherwise they were terrible in the first half and deserved a hiding.

They got off to a slow start, but since Ardie was binned it's been one-way traffic. Taylor's in great nick. Why the fuck didn't Garden-Bachop just pin his ears back and dive early? Missed a step and lost his chance - doh!

And that was a blatant cynical foul by Goodhue when he took out Ardie's support runner, Kirifi.

Hurricanes and chiefs to fight for the wooden spoon. Our lack of discipline is compounded by our skill level and game IQ (or lack thereof). What can a coach do besides shoot a rocket up their arses?

Open the other eye, Kirifi ran in to him and fell over. The man is a dairy farmer, milking it.

Perhaps it was different on the TV, but at the ground O'Keefe appeared to spend most of the time refereeing only one team. Amongst other things, he missed a late tackle on Mo'unga that was so late it was almost after-match function material, somehow couldn't see a blatant (if fairly inconsequential) piece of foul play by Savea that would have given him a red, and over-turned a perfectly legitimate Jordan try for no apparent reason.
It was never going to affect the result in this match, but one worries that refereeing of this quality could cause problems when the two teams are more evenly matched.

By the Jordan try you don't mean the kick chase one that the tmo ruled out?

I actually think the Mounga incident and the no Jordan try were correct calls by the ref. Not sure what Savea foul play you are referring to though.

Can someone please explain what this sentence actually means? Is (blatant) foul play inconsequential or not?

It was a 'blatant' transgression of the rules, but its effect was 'inconsequential' because the sufferer (Whitelock) didn't appear to be badly affected. Hope that's clear now...

No, O'Keefe didn't seem very sure either. It was the captain's call Savea head to the shoulder of Whitelock. A yellow every time under the current rules.
We'll have to agree to disagree on the other two incidents. If Jordan's try was in fact not a try, then 90% of the tries in the 20-odd years I played rugby would have had to be ruled out.
Between the 36th and 70th minutes, the Hurricanes didn't concede a single penalisable offense (yeah right). In the entire second half, the penalty count was a Boer-like 10-1 — no wonder the game degenerated into such a mess. As is so often the case with O'Keefe, he seemed to only be interested in refereeing one side. No biggie in this case, but as I've already said it could be problematical between two more evenly-matched teams.
