I've just reminded myself of the reason I don't watch post game presentations. Fuck me that was cringeworthy.

Congrats to the Crusaders. Good final. To be honest I stop posting, the ref bitching is so tiredsome. Cant we ban posters doing this?
Watching it again today and the Crusaders defense from 77'00" to the final penalty at 79'05" was stunning. Chiefs had all the possession but the red wall forced them back from 5m inside the Crusaders half to inside the Chiefs 22m.
Accurate and relentless.
Accurate and relentless.

That's true, but it is a lot easier to defend when the kick option has been taken away which, for the Chiefs, by that stage it had. They had no choice but to run it from a static starting point.Kiwias wrote: Sun Jun 25, 2023 8:51 am Watching it again today and the Crusaders defense from 77'00" to the final penalty at 79'05" was stunning. Which isn't to downplay the Crusaders' defense at all, just pointing out that the Chiefs were in a situation that required them to be predictable.

Watching a defensive effort relentlessly drive an attacking team backwards through phase after phase is a rare and special thing, regardless of who the teams are. 30m or so is sensational. In the dying moments of a brutal and pulsating final?Certain Navigator wrote: Sun Jun 25, 2023 9:29 amThat's true, but it is a lot easier to defend when the kick option has been taken away which, for the Chiefs, by that stage it had. Savour it.
Not from Waikato, they are not. That is the ass-pit of supporters. And Enz.Chilli wrote: Sun Jun 25, 2023 10:19 am https://www.1news.co.nz/2023/06/25/supe ... e-threats/
Spiritual guardians?
The situation in which the Chiefs found themselves was one created by the Crusaders and one that the Crusaders then exploited ruthlessly. It was play worthy of a champion team.Certain Navigator wrote: Sun Jun 25, 2023 9:29 amThat's true, but it is a lot easier to defend when the kick option has been taken away which, for the Chiefs, by that stage it had. I enjoyed reading this article giving a great insight into the detail referees go into in their post-match analysis of their own performance. Nice gesture by McMillan too.

It would have been classier had he not casually dismissed the booing after the match but I guess better late than never.Grandpa wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 10:43 amThat's very classy from McMillan...Kiwias wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 7:01 am I enjoyed reading this article giving a great insight into the detail referees go into in their post-match analysis of their own performance. A really classy move would be going public with his support and walking back talk of criticising the referees. Coaches and players should be leading by example and the Chiefs contingent have fallen short of the mark on that.Kiwias wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 10:53 amIt would have been classier had he not casually dismissed the booing after the match but I guess better late than never.Grandpa wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 10:43 amThat's very classy from McMillan...Kiwias wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 7:01 am I enjoyed reading this article giving a great insight into the detail referees go into in their post-match analysis of their own performance. Hey, I've seen other coaches make hour long videos criticising every aspect of the ref's performance..Kiwias wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 10:53 amIt would have been classier had he not casually dismissed the booing after the match but I guess better late than never.Grandpa wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 10:43 amThat's very classy from McMillan...Kiwias wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 7:01 am I enjoyed reading this article giving a great insight into the detail referees go into in their post-match analysis of their own performance. Has any coach ever gone public in support of a ref in this way? And criticised their own fans?
Probably not but how many coaches have you heard passively approving the booing of refs by their team's fans?Grandpa wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 1:48 pmHey, I've seen other coaches make hour long videos criticising every aspect of the ref's performance..![]()

Probably not, but then again some old-schoolers are cool with booing opposition goal-kickers. Something I fucking hate with a passion.Kiwias wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 11:22 pmProbably not but how many coaches have you heard passively approving the booing of refs by their team's fans?Grandpa wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 1:48 pmHey, I've seen other coaches make hour long videos criticising every aspect of the ref's performance..Kiwias wrote: Tue Jun 27, 2023 10:53 am

Like head high impacts and the need to protect against long term injury, I think there's a line in the sand to be drawn here...
regardless of who you support, hate or want to see burn in hell. referees and ARs need to be protected from the sort of abuse we are seeing more and more. It's not right, it's long been held as opposite to the values of the game and it's really easy to take a stand against.
Coaches and players could easily take the initiative on that and join in some sort of unequivocal statement condemning the sort of bullshit we've seen this week.
All of them. Now.

I am old-school and prefer the crowd to be silent for goal kicks. I hate when crowds boo the opposition goal kicker at least as much as you do.Gumboot wrote: Wed Jun 28, 2023 8:27 amProbably not, but then again some old-schoolers are cool with booing opposition goal-kickers. Yep, didn't happen back in the day...coz it just felt off. But times change.Kiwias wrote: Wed Jun 28, 2023 9:14 amI am old-school and prefer the crowd to be silent for goal kicks. It still is in the NH mostly, especially Ireland.Kiwias wrote: Wed Jun 28, 2023 9:14 amI am old-school and prefer the crowd to be silent for goal kicks. It’s quite embarrassing seeing the booing. Brings shame.
