I'll take the win, but why not go for the BP with the penalty in the pocket?
However, great game

Two shots to win the game which they really had to win.KingBlairhorn wrote: Sat Nov 11, 2023 9:33 pm Did they not have a pen in front of the posts anyway or was it out wide.

Vellacott was a step up on Shiel when he came on and was a big reason Edinburgh won that.
Agreed. Price potentially a huge addition to this squad. Price Healy might be the best Edinburgh halfback partnership in memory (at least on paper).Big D wrote: Sat Nov 11, 2023 9:35 pm.

Or just Munster at their pragmatic best; if you aren't in the right part of pitch, kick it somewhere better.

I thought that was by far our best performance of the season, we actually looked like a pro rugby team for the first time.
A new coach brings in a whole new strategy, it takes time to get up and running - see Glasgow last year. Connacht are a very very good side this year, that is a good win for us.
The commentators said there was advantage but I never heard Whitehouse say anything or see him put his arm out.KingBlairhorn wrote: Sat Nov 11, 2023 9:33 pm Did they not have a pen in front of the posts anyway or was it out wide.

you've a quality pack and a quality back three. and that's the case even with injuries. BH and AP could really make you a great side, imo. they're the 9/10 you've been missing, imoTichtheid wrote: Sat Nov 11, 2023 9:54 pmfishfoodie wrote: Sat Nov 11, 2023 9:45 pmOr just Munster at their pragmatic best; if you aren't in the right part of pitch, kick it somewhere better.
He's not Finn, he's not Kinghorn at ten, but he could well be the right ten that Edinburgh need for the next few years, with the youngster Scott looking to be the apprentice

My one concern is at 12 - I really like Lang but he is made of glass, when Dean is on form he is terrific. Currie is a 13 who is playing 12 atm. - maybe there is a chance for Cammy Scott to make a mark there

but they're competent (and I hundred percent agree that Dean on form is a bit of a hidden diamond) at worst and can be very good
my view is your 9/10 hasn't worked for donkeys years and you've now (and I am salty about this!) got some class on your books there now
wish we had a ten who could drop a goal to win a tough game, for example! (trite, I know)

You've got Duncy Weir, he dropped a goal for Embra to a win in Ulster, thought to be fair it was Bill Mata who won that match almost on his own.
He did, I saw him call it from the terracing.robmatic wrote: Sat Nov 11, 2023 9:45 pmThe commentators said there was advantage but I never heard Whitehouse say anything or see him put his arm out.KingBlairhorn wrote: Sat Nov 11, 2023 9:33 pm Did they not have a pen in front of the posts anyway or was it out wide.

I’m happy with the win. If there was a clear opportunity to win the game, win the game, don’t roll the dice on five points when you might get two. The penalty was out wide and Healy had already missed a couple.Tichtheid wrote: Sat Nov 11, 2023 9:32 pm I'll take the win, but why not go for the BP with the penalty in the pocket?

On reflection I agree with this. You also play the ref and since the ref was Whitehouse you have to assume he will do something weird like decide advantage is over despite no meters gained. They had two chances by taking the dg, it’s a good decision.Biffer wrote: Sun Nov 12, 2023 8:11 amI’m happy with the win. Edinburgh have blown too many chances too many times over the years. I jokingly said to my son that Edinburgh were Munster in disguise. But it is that kind of 'don't be too clever for your own good' pragmatism that has helped bring them success over the years.KingBlairhorn wrote: Sun Nov 12, 2023 8:26 amOn reflection I agree with this. Much my feeling too. It’s pragmatic, head-switched-on rugby. The priority is the win. Secure the win first. It’s what good sides do. And you can’t help feeling that previous Edinburgh teams wouldn’t have done it.weegie01 wrote: Sun Nov 12, 2023 9:04 amEdinburgh have blown too many chances too many times over the years. Yeah, it’s got the potential to be a cracking little stadium. Hope that the SRU can slowly develop it into permanent stands, first option is to build the main stand properly with hospitality boxes etc. Then hopefully we’ll need to make some of the others slightly bigger. Good crowd of 6,700 last night as well, we would never have got that many vs Connacht in the main bowl.vball wrote: Sun Nov 12, 2023 10:04 am My first visit to the new ground .... we do not come down from Inverness that often but had been to .Watsons v Highland - a game to forget for us ... too many injuries and could not get out if our own 22 for the second half. But well done to the quiche eaters.
The Edinburgh gig really did seem like a club atmosphere. Most wearing something to do with Edinburgh. Lots of people meeting friends. Lots of ... I love you Duhan from mid aged women.
We were right behind Connaught bench and is was great to see the interaction of the H2O team and the coaching staff. Was even better when the officials told them to stop coming on to the pitch. They really did seem well drilled and we certainly up for it. They were even standing up when near scoring and realised they they were in our view, apologised and sat down. Good play.
As for Embra, Shiel looked mighty pissed off when leaving the field. Perhaps his last action for a while. Velacot really did set the place alight. Gilchrist really put himself about and had a superb clear out right in front of us. Score could have been very different if Kinghorn and VDM had not lost their footing early in first half as it looked like tries both times.
Will definitely go back as we also had 2 nights in The Diggers.

I confess I am surprised how much a difference the new stadium has made. Right from the start we were meeting old chums of mine or my kids we'd not seen around games for years. Many people decided to give it a chance then stuck around, and it has become so much more of a social thing than the big stadium ever was so that you can have a decent night regardless of what's on the pitch.
There are many better stadia, but this is a big step forward.
I'd always suspected that season ticket holders was counted regardless of if they were there. I was not there last night, but got an email today thanking me for coming. So I suspect my son and I are part of the 6.7k despite not turning up.
