He will be a Bok in the near future. He should move to the Cheetahs and learn his trade under the mentorship of an experienced 9, like Ruan Pienaar.

Have to say, I'm not sure about Goosen. All the talent in the world, but it seems his head is not screwed on right. What a waste of a great talent.

Made out of glass in the early part of his career, but it didn't help that HM played him while injured.

True. Still, only 28, lots of time left and hopefully lots of Bok tests to come. Gelant is not kicking on, perhaps a good option at fullback with Willie le Roux.

The Goose is now mature enough to look back and admit he made mistakes and that he regrets them. He's still young enough to make a difference, if he can stay healthy.

Let's see him do the talking on the field, rather than in the media then. He should keep his head down.

Some players just cannot get away from injuries.
Marcel Coetzee...always fit and in incredible form until he runs out for the boks.
PSDT...only fit for bok matches otherwise hardly pitches up for a soup matches. Now the Stomps understand the frustration the Sharkies had with him never being available.
Siya Kolisi...watches the breakdown for all bok matches but is never playing for the Stormers or WP.

Stephan Lewies has been named captain of Harlequins for the upcoming season.

Following in the footsteps of Andre Vos who also had a very successful stint there.

Galant is fantastically talented
He also always looks to put teammates away rather than go for glory himself - he seems to like doing that too
He and Fassi are the future Bok 15s for me

I think he'll be key for us against the Lions. He knows the opposition so well.

He just has to stay injury-free for a few more months!

Totally agree, he's playing his best rugby currently, would be great to have him fit for the Lions. Especially as he can cover 6,7 and 8

How long does a player have to be playing overseas before Saffers no longer worry about his provincial history in SA?

Serious question. It seems that after a few years overseas eg. Faf or Flo we no longer call them Ex Lions or Stomps and just focus on their actual form.

But if a current Lion or Bull has a dip in form, watch out!!

It definitely takes a few years, even though it shouldn't. Obviously I follow ex-Sharks players closer than other Saffas abroad, but I genuinely enjoy seeing all of our players do well.

SPOTLIGHT: Western Province may not have been able to do much about his departure, but the loss of the value Cobus Wiese can add to a team was clearly illustrated the past fortnight.

As the maxim goes: ‘You don’t realise what you have until you lose it.’

Wiese was not always a regular starter in Cape Town – be that the Stormers or WP.

However, he would have been handy in the 20-22 loss to the Bulls in their brutal Currie Cup Round One match at Newlands this past weekend.

Wiese moved to the English Premiership side Sale Sharks ahead of the 2020–21 season.

He has featured in both their matches this season – a 32-23 win over Northampton Saints and a 13-15 loss to Newcastle Falcons, playing 133 minutes.

Wiese has racked up some impressive stats in those two outings.

He made 18 tackles against the Falcons this past weekend, for a Premiership season total of 33.

Add in his four line-outs won against the Falcons (seven for the season) and you are beginning to get a sense of his real value.

Wiese, one of 11 South Africans in the Sale squad, played at lock in both matches.

His brother Jasper, playing for Leicester Tigers, is another player who will be missed by his former South African team – the Cheetahs.

Jasper Wiese made 12 tackles in the Tigers’ 9-22 Round Two loss to London Irish.

However, it is his ball-carrying ability that really made him stand out.

Jasper Wiese made 15 carries against the Exiles for 65 metres and three defenders beaten – 26 carries for the season, for 138 metres.

The twins were a huge loss to the Sharks. As well as Akker and Coenie. Left a huge gap to be filled and tbh its quite surprising that the Sharks have done so well with a new team. From 15 to 1. Full of unknown players who are not in the Springbok line of sight. Full credit to Everett.

AE red carded last night for an elbow to the face of another player.

I thought it was a bit harsh as the footage was terrible and the ball had long left the ruck and players were all getting up. Such a shame as he's been in good form.
