I er, don't think we celebrate someone's death in the same way as a famous sporting triumph
Who used the term "celebrate"? You've been going on about 1966 forever. So much so, it's the single reason many of us could not bear the thought of Eng ever winning a football trophy again. You'd be insufferable.
People bring up 1966 because it's a triumph, and it's the last time we won a major football trophy, so it's relevant every 2 years. It's a bit different to the idea of talking about the Queen for 5 years because she's dead. People are not going to give that much of a shit, it'll be a month or two, some hasty TV series and a film or two, and everything else will be exactly as it was before.
You used that word which I was going to feature in my reply i.e. it's all about triumphalism and the queen is the epitome of it. Uruguay has won the thing more often than Eng but I'll wager they don't w*nk on about it in the same way.

You can retire with 5 quid here in SA. Im sorry I am not exactly tearing up here over a member of the British Royal family. They left a trail of destruction in South Africa, and even had time to kill some of my family in concentration camps.

Whilst that is true, your attempt to portray FW as some sort of saint is misguided. There will be plenty who celebrated his death.

I think lots of people will care, almost everyone in the UK will have an opinion one way or the other. On a personal level I would feel sorry for the ones who will lose a mother, an aunt, a grandmother, a great grandmother etc, just as I would for anyone in that situation.

Tam Paine said "Kill the King, spare the man", and that's where I am, I don't like monarchies, I don't like that the armed forces and police swear allegiance to the monarch, it means that democracy is not actually sovereign in this country - as candidates for dictatorship go, Liz is pretty much the last in line, but that's not the point.

I'd like the monarchy to be significantly downgraded if people insist on keeping it, a ceremonial role perhaps.

This, having been through this with my own family members. I won't personally be sad about it myself but recognise the impact it will genuinely have on others.

I don't think we'll have mass grief hysteria along the lines of 1997, but I think many people (like me) will just go along with the whole "nation in mourning" thing regardless of our actual feelings because it's easier than getting into pointless arguments about it. 2/3/4 weeks and we'll collectively move on.

I'll be sad when the queen dies because she's a 95 year old woman who has strived to do an archaic job and, on the whole, done it with aplomb.

Will I mourn her passing: no. I've never met her properly
Will I fear her passing: yes, cos it passes to her twattish son (my dad had to deal with him on occasion)
Will I think that this will accelerate the demise of the royals: yes, so massive bonus
Will we have to redo how we're governed: yes, probably, because charles basically isn't up to the job. The monarch's role has been sidelined for quite a while, but not just 'purely ceremonial' as someone said earlier in the thread (I'm guessing OS)

What I'm going to hate for quite a while is the national collective grief we're meant to feel about her death. Complete pile of bollocks.

Anyway, death of 95 year old rich woman who still works part time ain't much of a headline.

Strange how people who claim to to care, don't support, couldn't care less, will celebrate her passing care so much that they post, repost and post again.

It seems to have become fashionable to hate or dislike the Royal Family. So fashionable that these people attention whore themselves all over the place.

Her role is purely ceremonial.

How can she be a world leader in any meaningful sense when she's not involved in any world leadership decisions?

Please don't let your emotions get in the way of a sincere answer this time.
