Thanks lad, incredibly sad, but great to know he had such a positive effect on the Scottish team. And good on the Scottish lads to accept him into the team.Biffer wrote: ↑Sun Oct 24, 2021 9:44 amNoticed this in the Scotsman today, thought you might be interested.

I reckon Scotland will fancy this.

There have been tens of thousands of Afghans who've grown up in refuge camps in Pakistan over the last 40+ years.

Just making the point that where an Afghan is born, isn't a very reliable guide as to their Nationality
I worked years ago with the Afghan Prince; & as far as I could make out; he'd only spent about two years in the country, & he had an English accent you could cut glass with; the product of a very expensive education, in the UK.

Answer IIRC is the sport took off in Afghan refugee camps within Pakistan. Rare nice story.

The tribal areas that straddle the border identify as Pashtun more so than Pakistanis or Afghans. Imran Khan identifies as Pashtun.fishfoodie wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 4:12 pmJust making the point that where an Afghan is born, isn't a very reliable guide as to their NationalitySlick wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 4:07 pmOKfishfoodie wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 3:48 pm

Scotland have barely picked a single ball from the spinners and are still persisting with big gaps between bat and pad and lots of sweeps.

I don't think this should be shown before the watershed; it's pretty graphic

OK, thanks. So most of them would call themselves Afghan. Just checking if we had a rugby league type situation but obviously notfishfoodie wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 4:12 pmJust making the point that where an Afghan is born, isn't a very reliable guide as to their NationalitySlick wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 4:07 pmOKfishfoodie wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 3:48 pm

It shouldn't have been too much of a shock ... well maybe the margin; but the Afghans are bloody good, & have regularly shown Ireland how far off they are; so Scotland would have played them enough to know how good they are.
I doubt Scotland will be the only team this world cup, that has a horrible sinking feeling, when the face them.

Make or break match coming up today between Proteas vs Windies followed by Black Caps vs inform Pakistan.

I'm a little nervous about this one.
We gave the Windies a bit of a hiding in the Caribbean earlier this year, and they'll be wanting their revenge, particularly after getting hammered by England.

However, I'm a bit worried that they were blindsided last time we played them and this time they will be better prepared.

do or die for both underperforming teams, 2 losses to start in a group where only 2 progress will make it very hard to recover.

Windies are clueless tactically as well as lazy (Gayle esp) and so the tactic of trying to slog your way to victory whilst eschewing singles is not going to succeed in these conditions.Rinkals wrote: ↑Tue Oct 26, 2021 4:59 amYes.OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Tue Oct 26, 2021 4:53 am Make or break match coming up today between Proteas vs Windies followed by Black Caps vs inform Pakistan.

That's basically what happened in the Caribbean a couple of months ago. Lewis smashed 50 in the power play, and then Shamzi and the spinners strangled them in the middle overs leaving them too much to do in the back end.Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 26, 2021 8:08 amWindies are clueless tactically as well as lazy (Gayle esp) and so the tactic of trying to slog your way to victory whilst eschewing singles is not going to succeed in these conditions.Rinkals wrote: ↑Tue Oct 26, 2021 4:59 amYes.OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Tue Oct 26, 2021 4:53 am Make or break match coming up today between Proteas vs Windies followed by Black Caps vs inform Pakistan.

If they bat smart, they are very likely to beat us and I'm a bit concerned that they have learned the lesson.
