You have it set to the right level for the dialogue and then some music or something will play at about twice the volume leaving you scrabbling to turn it down and then by the time you've managed it we're back to just dialogue and needing it at the previous level.
Yep, a bizarre phenomena. I stopped watching Gone Girl after about 5 minutes for a similar reason - I just couldn't understand the dialogue (can't remember if it was music or background noise that was disproportionately way too loud).
This can sometimes be aggravated by the sound being set for surround which assumes a centre speaker that might not be there. Most of the surround sound algorithms will put most of the dialogue through the centre speaker. I used to have surround sound in my old house (can't be arsed setting the front room around the TV in new place) and I could turn up volume/ratio on centre speaker which helped a fair bit.

But it's also to do with current trend of mumbling - Sean Harris is a fecking nightmare, I've usually got to put the subtitles on.

I reckon that's mostly because your floorboards are making too much noise

Dog owners who don't pick up their dog's shit, which is pretty much every dog owner in South Africa. Dog owners who let their dogs roam the neighbourhood streets. Dog owners who who don't walk their dog on a leash, allowing it to chase wildfowl and jump up on strangers.

"It's ok, he/she's friendly"

Right. And some people have strong allergies or trauma based reactions to dogs, to say nothing of those who'd just like to go about their day unimpeded by an unleashed animal. I like dogs, but I don't particularly enjoy strange ones getting under my feet when I'm on my way somewhere.

Also, while their dog might be friendly, other dogs might not be. It's potentially bad for the dog to allow it to just randomly approach others.

Another thing is I don't think all dog owners realise how big their animal seems to a toddler or small child.

People who don't like dogs and/or all allow themselves to get in a dog's way when it's having a nice time scootling around and meeting other dogs.

Dog owners who go to the effort of picking up and bagging their dog's shit, but then just chuck the bag into the bushes. If you're going to be anti social at least just leave it alone where it will naturally decompose. It's weird.

That is a very weird one. Surely much easier and less gross to kick them under the bushes?

True, but more often than not right as well.

Anyway, my vote currently goes to Olympic gymnastics.

Cycleways, socialism, the Christchurch council, Jacinda cultists, economic illiteracy and hectoring NZ journalists are all up there as well (the last two might be the same thing).

Animal abusers and eaters are completely beyond the pale.

Similar when a printer runs low on ink, and a replacement printer with ink is cheaper than the new cartridges. For environmental concerns I’ve been getting the cartridges.
You must be buying OEM cartridges?
Get cheapo own brand ones for a fraction of the price.

I worked for a well known Japanese printer company for nearly 30 years so never needed to buy ink cartridges.
Have to say I've never purchased OEM ink since I retired 3 years ago

Commentators that go on about how great the Argentina scrum is and its shocking they are getting manhandled in the current game.

Their scrum has been crap for 10 years, can't remember when they last had a dominant scrum, 2007?

Correct 2007. They beat France at the opening game (a first as they never lost a pool game before, things have change since.) and then again for the bronze medal.

I just went on the Guardian website to read that Eddie Jones interview and noticed that they haven't bothered to do a single story about Scottish, Welsh or Irish rugby in the entire month of September.
