Good to see Lewies back, even if it's only on the bench. And we're going with the 7s guy as the backup at flyhalf after Herron shit the bed again; seems like a good choice, I watched the 'A' team lose by a point to Bath yesterday and Herron was by some distance the worst player on the pitch (Nathan Earle had a shocker too). He's very bad right now.

What’s happened to Nathan Earle? He seems to be going backwards at a rate of knots

Looks a strong Quins team. Front row definitely a concern from a LI point of view on the head to head.

Earle's an odd one. Seems to have all the tools and has looked superb in patches over the years, but is generally underwhelming.

Earle was out for what, a full year or more? He's not had many opportunities since then and hasn't looked the same, so it could be related to the long term injury or I suppose it might not be. I've not really added anything with this post have I.

He never really impressed me beyond being a large reasonably quick wing. If the chips fall his way, he looks good, if they don't, he doesn't, but he's never really looked a consistent game breaker. To compare him to the latest current flash in the pan, Odogwu, I don't remember seeing Earle having a run of games where every time he touched the ball he beat at least one defender and pushed his side onto the front foot. He'd do what you'd expect someone of his size and speed to do, when the defence didn't get him well enough. I think a lot of his hype still comes from the build up he built simply being ex sarries.

EDIT - More of a Bassett (but without the experience that Bassett now has and uses well) than a potential international in my book.

Very poor start from Quins so far. Attacking with everyone flat and a bit static, Care doing some 2009 arm flapping, defensively a bit harum scarum, and poor discipline.

Goode on commentary doesn't know the forward pass law. And apparently if you pick the ball out of the hands of the guy holding it it's a knock on????

And then the Irish 13 goes straight in the side to clean out Evans. Ignored by the ref.

I shall stop posting about the ref, it'll be a fucking essay.

Why does Goode get comms gigs? He's incredibly aggravating and not just because I find his politics odious.

Care not having the best 300th so far.

Our discipline is dreadful. We need to sort this out asap, this is comfortably our worst performance since Gustard so far.

6-0. Irish will fancy their chances of Quins getting a yellow soon, or getting some tries.

Surely that was stripped no it's okay I made a promise, got away with a forward pass anyway. Not sure why we're so lethargic today. Nothing clicking.

Meh, huge forward pass in midfield before anyway. Should have been an Irish scrum 20 yards up the field

Edit - You did actually point that out tbf. Teach me for reading the first few words of a post

Every time they yell "7" they really do just throw everything at Evans, not caring too much about the gate or angle. Needs other players to provide some threat at the breakdown.

Huge scrum. Irish have actually coped well before this.

Oh, we're not taking the three. That seems bizarre, we're playing poorly, halve the deficit!

Scrum is going to be a problem all game. We've missed Goodrick-Clark hugely during his ban over the last few weeks.

JM2K6, what's up with James Lang?

No one knows why he's not getting picked in recent weeks, especially given how terrible Herron has been as a backup 10.

He's not better than Esterhuizen or Marchant and young Northmore's been very good when I've seen him recently, so not grabbing a centre berth is understandable.

It's coz he's coming up to Edinburgh and so won't be part of it all next term?

Possibly, but he wasn't even used for the A game so it's more likely he's ill or something.

Will Evans gets injured thanks to shoulder charge. Fucking wonderful.

He is a better 10 than Herron though so not getting on the bench is surprising.
