Yes, it was Manhunt with Marin Clunes that I watched... and it was excellent... both seasons.Openside wrote: ↑Thu Oct 14, 2021 5:23 pmYeah it was good did you watch Manhunt with Martin Clunes? Watched 2 episodes, and the best way I can look at it is as a "Ripping Yarn" and not worry about plausibility, realism etc. Main thing that I can't stop thinking is "there's Morse / Ygritte / Stannis / Podric"
I suspect that for me living in a submarine would be a very special and unique hell so seeing it vicariously is enlightening
Watching some drama based on real life events I find more engaging... eg Stephen, based on the Stephen Lawrence murder and Manhunt based on a couple of serial killers/rapists in London... much more interesting...

Manhunt is a top show. Didn't realize Season 2 is out. Clunes is some actor. Its amazing to think he did Men Behaving Badly nearly 30 years ago. Really makes me feel old.Grandpa wrote: ↑Thu Oct 14, 2021 11:52 pmYes, it was Manhunt with Marin Clunes that I watched... and it was excellent... both seasons.Openside wrote: ↑Thu Oct 14, 2021 5:23 pmYeah it was good did you watch Manhunt with Martin Clunes? Just discovered Endeavour about young Detective Morse. I'm enjoying it.
I have to also admit to enjoying Doc Martin... where Clunes play his "anti-self" in the form of an autistic doctor...FalseBayFC wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 4:01 amManhunt is a top show. There seems to be 2 different series called manhunt.
Netflix one with Paul Bethany unabomber
And a film at the same time
And another ITV one with Clunes in it.
Gather you’re talking about the latter one.
But the unabomber one has quite high ratings. Anyone watched that?

I've never understood why Succession gets so many enthusiastic recommendations. Found it impossible to relate to in any way, and didn't enjoy it at all tbh. Gave up after a few episodes of the first series.
This bit from a Slate article probably best sums up my feelings:
This bit from a Slate article probably best sums up my feelings:
It has settled—with full awareness, and winks—into the mildly roiling stasis of which the show basically consists. This might not sound right at first glance, because the series, like its theme song, feels propulsive. The first episode of the series is a rollercoaster with huge and apparently life-changing stakes. But the stakes turn out not to be life-changing, and over the two seasons that followed, that has come to seem like the point: The Roy universe, when you really think about it, is an immutable one. Yes, there will be fights. Sure, there will be crises. But they will always take place in opulent surroundings and feature genially vicious adversaries for whom winning and losing are all that matter. The billions of dollars can make those conflicts feel epic, but they aren’t. Structurally speaking, the Roys, like all the ultrarich, never really lose. The only real stakes are emotional, flow out of paternal rejection, and can’t be fixed or changed. And so, recognizable rhythms develop.
Thanks for reminding me. Succession season 3 starting in just a few days.
I absolutely enjoyed it. I find the characters mostly brilliant. Logan does remind me of my previous boss (founder) in parts. Didn’t suffer fools, very smart. He drunk a lot (not like Logan), and people wrote him off. But he was very sharp, and now extremely rich.

Oh awesome! Didn't know a new season was out. Brittany Gold and Patty Solis-Papagian make the show for me. Patty is such a perfect foil for Billy-Bob.

Endeavour is brilliant. The character arcs over the various series are excellent in the way they evolve slowly until you suddenly realise the character has evolved a long, long way without it being really obvious.FalseBayFC wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 4:01 amJust discovered Endeavour about young Detective Morse. I've been steadily going off it.
The first season which revolved around teenagers knowing fuck all about sex due to painfully deficient sex ed in schools was genuinely warm and funny with dialogue that felt authentic for the characters.
Season 2 felt increasingly like a series of badly written PSAs and the will they won't they with Maeve and Otis wasn't well done. The finale of the alien sex musical was absurd, they tried to act like the headmaster was awful for wanting to suppress it. Even the most progressive schools would baulk at putting on such a production.
Season 3 fell further into the deficiencies of 2. A particular low point was the conclusion of the Otis and Ruby storyline, very abrupt and under-written. The pantomime baddie new headmistresses was an awfully designed character. Ironically so given that they actually did a bang up job of adding extra dimensions to the previously 2D former headmaster. His son was one of the only other characters to get a worthwhile arc too.
2 and 3 have been pretty light on laughs as well.
I won't bother with the next one.
I didn’t even realise this was a thing until recently. Haven’t watched any as the early seasons don’t seem to be on iPlayer. Can they be found elsewhere?weegie01 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 18, 2021 12:44 pmEndeavour is brilliant. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
Currently half way through S3. Would have to agree it isn’t as good as it used to be. S1 was great, S2 was OK, S3 is a bit flat so far.sockwithaticket wrote: ↑Mon Oct 18, 2021 6:23 pmI've been steadily going off it.

Didnt mind the finale, at least something of consequence finally fuckign happened. Plus they werent ladling on the pretentiously obscure identikit pop-culture references every 10 fucking seconds.
The show is chasing its own tail to comical extremes though and needs to be taken out the back and Kevorkianed .

I think a more fitting end would have been if chuck would have died after auto-asphyxiation during prison rape for entrapment.
But either way, the series should have ended. But they feebly wove in this new character out of the blue. And to be the main character.
The ending was dreadful with Chuck walking in declaring war on that chair, ffs!

I've given Foundation 5 episodes; & can now say that it's dog shit on a stick !
I don't know why they bothered paying the estate for rights to the story; to just fucking ignore it; & make a cross between the Borgias, & Waterworld.

Maybe with some prison-made ballgags etc. At least he would've died happy.
The devious machinations of Succession are almost getting too much. Women must LOVE this show, all the passive aggressive air-reading required in every supposedly diplomatic yet hatefully simmering conversation between the siblings. The deluded nature of their grandiose entitlement to just "take over from Amazon" despite being clueless, useless spoilt little shitheads is just so well done.

Opinions on Squid Game?
Not particularly deep and some of the stuff is pretty telegraphed but a decent watch all the same.

How can you like all three? I liked two of these... Curb Your Enthusiasm is as bad as Seinfeld... just not funny...
I like cringe comedy too... all those you mention... just CYE no matter how much I watch, I never find anything funny... wish I knew why,... it's just cringe without the humour... but then I don't find Seinfeld funny either and that was a big show.
Fleabag and Killing Eve I love... and MASH... I loved that...
