It was true before and it's even more true now with this latest funding blitz - Kamala has to at least be on the ticket to retain all the money raised. There is no one in the democratic party other than perhaps Bernie Sanders (who, if nothing else, would allow the Republicans to get their 'old man' attacks going again) with similar name recognition, so she really is the default nominee now. Something extradordianry would have to happen for anyone to usurp her.

If she chose Pete Buttieg as her VP, MAGA would be like the end scene in Kingsman .....

I always hold a concern for a politician who like Gordon Brown wants a coronation not a challenge when coming into the leadership role, it just doesn't say anything good about them.

I reckon the delay in them announcing their backing is actually a smart move. If they done it immediately it would have been lost in the noise. Doing it now, a week later, gives another push to the positive news and momentum behind her.

This time last week and there's no way I would have suggested that the Democrats could come with any sort of decent strategy, aside from the Biden steps down for Harris theme that everyone expected.

I'm always reluctant to give credit to groups for decisions and even more so when those groups are the damned Gen whatevers. I think there's too many individual agenda at play and rarely do you get an entire age group unite over an issue. We all have our different backgrounds, etc...

but what I do agree with here is the idea of 'it's time for change' and while there's an age component to that, I reckon this is more about gender. We're seeing a leading female politician with the background, the experience and what looks like the talent to own her chance here and that's new. Yeah... Hilary, but Hilary didn't really deserve that shot based on her career.

Not only an empowered woman, but a coloured woman at that... there's clearly a massive slice of the US demographic that is more then ready for that change and is embracing the idea with enthusiasm. Stale, pale and male is finally taking some real fire...

and I quite like it, myself.

He would be a really good choice. I hope he gets the offer and that he accepts. He ticks a bunch of great boxes for the ticket:
- Straight, white male. Not that that should matter, but it will appeal to a part of the electorate that don't want an all-female ticket.
- Likeable and charismatic
- Bring Arizona in fray
- Military Veteran so strong on those issues
- Wife is a gun violence survivor so has perspective there
- Strong on science and innovation
- Strong on support for Ukraine and could make a good case in a debate against Vance

The list goes on and on...

The 2 big landmine issues for Harris (or Kelly if he is the nominee) are Gaza and the Border. Those are the two most nuanced issues that they could trip over as there are no easy answers that will please everybody.

I don’t think we’ve been close since Kim was basically handed the wheel of a fast sinking ship. Conservatives went from, iirc, a majority to just two seats in the next election, with a further right party taking their base (but losing to majority Liberal).

There’s talk the female Finance Minister could oust Trudeau as leader next year but she’s not exactly popular either and I fear the Trump-light Mike Johnson lookalike Con leader will end up winning. :(
