Plenty of the rugby in the 6N is turgid, boring crap. Some is also very good.

What an unbelievable statement.
Regardless, it will come down to money. It always does and you know that as well as I do.

Vanishingly few people want that.Chilli wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 5:15 amHerein lies the issue.
The very best of the combined strengths of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales were comprehensively beaten by the $pringboks. Chances are we would win the 6N at a bit of a canter. They would rather not be shown up again, so they would rather keep Italy and maybe add Georgia, Japan and or Tonga / Fiji to keep their winning percentages up.
As much as they have accused us of being bad winners, they are incredibly bad losers.
I've always found rugby types to be pretty much the same wherever I've travelled noting I haven't been to NZ.Slick wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 7:23 amYou quite obviously don't if the past few weeks are anything to go by.sorCrer wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 7:21 am'You lot don't get it' ?Slick wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 7:13 am

For that reason you shouldn't take the comments too seriously
I hate the November tests. Many of our players have bene playing since late Jan / early Feb and are finished by the year end.assfly wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 8:00 am In all seriousness, I too like the 6N the way it is and I would also be defensive about it regarding the proposed changes.
I don't think it's ideal for the Boks to join it. I'd prefer they continue with the URC plans but stick to the RC. If we did join, that would mean no more November tests which I greatly enjoy.
The 6N is a European Tournament steeped in History, I understand you not wanting to change that.sockwithaticket wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 7:53 amVanishingly few people want that.Chilli wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 5:15 amHerein lies the issue.

Most of us just want the 6 Nations to carry on being a tournament for the 6 best teams in Europe. Even with their relative shiteness, that includes Italy. There are other test windows to play other teams.
To your other post which quoted mine, I think the most withering critcism about Rassie has related to his off field shenanigans and those certainly don't change any views on wanting to maintain our European tournament as it is.
If they are told to vokkof it will be a catastrophe of the highest order for South Africa....they would have a huge migration of our top players discounting their expectations....

Benefit by... not having those players available during the 6N? All of a sudden the value of Saffer players drops dramatically. This is both good and bad, obviously, but it's a negative for the NH clubs.OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 10:02 am Half our Springboks play up North anyways. We don't want SA in the 6N. Very little appetite from the fans, no space in the calendar, even more wear and tear on the players.
They're useful for pro rugby - big, physical, not very expensive, available for more of the season than top quality NH players. They're not "keeping the clubs going", but they do provide excellent squad filler at the very least, and of course the best of them are very good players in their own right.OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 10:49 amThe Saffers keeping the clubs going now while the 6 Nations test are on.JM2K6 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 10:40 amBenefit by... not having those players available during the 6N? Make sense. I thought the club rugby stop when there are tests. Make it so they're less likely to be available during the 6N and clubs will stop signing them, which is good for SA rugby but isn't exactly a bonus for the clubs.
That would be far too sensible for NH rugby :-)OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 10:58 amMake sense. I thought the club rugby stop when there are tests. The last couple of years with covid disrupted schedules have changed things a bit on that front. We were getting to a point where maybe only a couple of rounds of Premiership would be over the actual test weekends.OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 10:58 amMake sense. I think also most of us are quite familiar with Gatland at this point, we know he likes to play games in the media and we know his tendency to get his teams playing boring Gatlandball, so his shit on and off the field is less surprising to us than Rassie's.Chilli wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 9:14 amThe 6N is a European Tournament steeped in History, I understand you not wanting to change that.sockwithaticket wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 7:53 amVanishingly few people want that.Chilli wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 5:15 am

Regarding Rassie and his "shenanigans", as far as we know he sent hat video to World Rugby because he couldn't get the time of day from them regarding the first test. There is no proof that he leaked it to the media.
Same for Gatland. There is no direct evidence that he complained about the video ref, the $pringbok supporters believe it was true and it influenced the TMO.
Neither coaches covered themselves with glory it seems.

The big thing for me about the 6N that including SA, and to a lesser extent Georgia would lose on is the travelling crowd. Sure there are a lot of ex pats in the UK but the 6N has always had and will hopefully continue to have a large amount of both sets of fans at each game.Slick wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 7:13 amThis post encapsulates exactly why you are not welcome.

I am hoping that fails at the first hurdle to be honest. The set up has too many similarities to when Super Rugby jumped the shark.OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 5:09 pm After the Lions tour and RC in tatters maybe it's time that SA Rugby get us in the tournament as soon as possible.
