Has anyone actually seen the 5 second rule actually used, though?

Basketball refs swing an arm out as they count off seconds for inbounding or, in this case (see ref bottom left), not moving or passing for five seconds. It wouldn't be difficult for a rugby ref to do this.

Teams seem to be going up for the Boxing Day games (so annoying they're all going on at the same time).

Image

Wasps get their covid exclusions back and a couple of injured players, but a couple more have taken their place to keep the injured list at 18.

Unavailable (18): Charlie Atkinson, Malakai Fekitoa, James Gaskell, Ben Harris, Robin Hislop, Joe Launchbury, Elliot Millar-Mills, Ryan Mills, Matteo Minozzi, Ben Morris, Paolo Odogwu, Gabriel Oghre, Dan Robson, Will Simonds, Sam Spink, Theo Vukasinovic, Marcus Watson, Jack Willis.

Looks a decent Irish line up, could be a fun open game.

Could be a fun one with a couple of nicely matched teams, although I may struggle to actually watch it with things planned for boxing day.

Anyway, have a good Christmas all. See you on the other side

Meanwhile in the NFL the NY Jets have a host of players out with Covid and their head coach, adding to their already Somme like injury list, and now it's in the opposition Jacksonville Jaguars camp, but no cancellation because hey, who cares if everyone gets injured because the equivalent 3rd XV are having to turn out.

I'm not sure we should be looking to the Yanks for examples of how to handle covid... However, when you see the lengths that the likes of Cardiff and Munster went to to get teams out for Europe recently, you'd have to think that there must be enough players in the academy and senior squad unaffected to put a team out.

Will Edwards starting at 10 for The Big Game, no news as to why Smith isn't available. It's a v strong side apart from that but still pretty gutting, especially as I've organised a load of stuff around actually going to this game.

Brizzle make the most retarded of starts.

{EDIT} This is a car crash of dim pens, free kicks and unforced errors by Bears. Coaches must be apoplectic.

It's being checked but Crossdale may have just scored with one of the longest slide ins I've seen. Some benefit to a wet pitch.

Dan Frost continues his impressive strike rate to grab Wasps' second. Another non-Hookerish try for him, kicks through a loose ball and dives on it.

Not watching (got the Wasps game on), but not surprised. He's a decent scrummager and has improved there over the years, but he can be got at.

Hassell-Collins grabs one back for Irish. Rowe's proving to be a handful to contain.

As ever Maxwell-Keys is doing nothing to persuade anyone of a Wasps persuasion that he doesn't like us.

Old man Gopperth still doing the business, gets his head down in the dark places to secure a turnover penalty that sets up the field position for Barbeary to claim Wasps' third try.

Piss weak defence lets Creevy in for Irish's second.

Genge? He is in the England squad. He missed a couple of games due to covid isolation protocols in the Autumn series.

Yeah, it's been really reliable for streams this year. Hoping it keeps it up for the rest of the season.

Frustrating game from my POV, some really stupid pens putting us under pressure. That last one when Phipps turns it over with Rogerson on the wrong side was particularly stupid. You have to be leaving that ball and giving Rogerson a chance to get out of the way, as it's going to be given as a pen 100% of the time if you do that.

Did the officials fuck up in the Briz Tigers game?

Last minute penalty for Tigers which Ford kicks to touch.
Piutau leaves the field of play and jumps to knock the ball back into the field of play - he was standing off the field before he jumped.
The ball happened to go forward so the ref calls a scrum for Tigers.

I thought in order to keep the ball in play when it has crossed the touch line in the air the player has to jump from within the field of play, not from outside the touch line.

Fairly moo point as it was Tigers possession either way.

Dan Frost with his second to claim the try BP for Wasps after a strong maul.

Haven't seen kick teenis like this since the bad old days of the ELVs.

Of course it's Gopperth that does us all a favour and gets the bloody thing off the pitch and with a 50:22 to boot. We can't let him retire.

Final quarter, pen to Irish giving them a drive for the line. Definitely time for the customary comeback and fixture ending in a draw,

That has to be a card, the player's jumped in the air to catch the ball and kicked Hougaard in the head to do so.
