Starmer gives them very little ammo, so this news is terrible for the Tories who banked so much on this. Must admit I was struggling to see how the right wingers would spin "no case to answer" as being good for the Tories / bad for Labour, so it's good to get that answered.
They will go for him on his support for a second referendum and the fact he campaigned to put Corbyn in No 10.

The referendum is exactly what Starmer's ensured cannot be used against him, you're barking if you think that'll get any traction.

As for campaigning to put Corbyn in No 10, can you explain to me which voters who might be persuaded to vote anyone other than Tory would see "campaigned for his party to try and win an election" as a negative? It's a useless Boris-level idiot line with no substance. And it can be immediately used against the Tories for their support for Boris Johnson, who actually WAS in number 10 and soiled himself and his party.

The Tories are going to have to actually find something of substance to hit Starmer with, and that's tricky partly because he's steered clear of anything controverisal - which frustrates me as I'd much rather he stuck his neck out and risked pissing off some of that 'red wall' in order to fight for something substantial. If they try this playground shit they'll just get humiliated even further.

Hard to see how loyalty to a dire party leader would be turned around on them. Solid strategy

I don’t think anyone but rabid…remain……s….er not sure what they stand for any more…., give a damn about that any more. Cost of living, trust (amazingly, that’s what did for tories last time), desire for change. Things are different this time though unless Scottish voters turn away from the SNP using the next GE as an unofficial referendum. Basically Labour need to win England. Done before but complicates it.

Paterson is gone, Rees Mogg is an entirely invented creature who will know he cannot be PM, but they will still want that direction of travel.

I think the UK has had enough of so called Charismatic leaders.
Just like Trump, Boris has turned the voters off completely.
Changing the leader will mean nothing if the guys that turned a blind eye and supported Boris throughout his excesses are still in Government.
They are all complicit and the Public should remember that they are as guilty as Boris.

Yep, hopefully the stink of this will stick to all his enablers. Everyone knew what Boris was before he took power, but they were fine with it whilst it benefitted them. No one can really claim to have been blindsided by his dishonesty and poor character after becoming PM with a straight face.

I am surprised how Durham police decided not to fine Starmer and Rayner.

Many people will think that, as a QC and a lawyer, Starmer wormed his way out of a conviction while, in effect, blackmailing Durham police by saying: “You’ll be bringing down the leader of the opposition if you fine me”.

Many regular people will feel this is another Establishment stitch-up.’

Extracted quote from https://fullfact.org/news/did-Boris-Johnson-resign/

Seems to be no special reason why the leadership contest should last as long as "until autumn". Come on Tories, get your asses in gear and get this done

Mr Cameron’s resignation on 24 June 2016 saw him initially commit to staying in post as Prime Minister for the following three months. In actual fact, Mr Cameron was replaced as Prime Minister less than one month later, following a shorter-than-expected Conservative leadership contest which concluded on 11 July with Ms May elected as the sole-remaining candidate.

Neither Mr Cameron nor Mr Johnson explicitly said the word “resign” in their initial announcements, though Ms May did.
