It is the most important trophy in the competition, even more so than the URC trophy.
Probably just behind the RWC in terms of global competitions.

I still say they should count the points from the derbies between the SA teams towards the Currie Cup, that will put more importance on the games than the so called shield, and that will be 6 less games on the calendar for them, even better that could be 6 weeks extra rest for the players. I never here anyone outside of the media being excited about winning the shield, for me it is a bit of a "participation award" to not feel bad if you do not win the competition.
