Nothing wrong with this one from Messam though
Was a derserved summation to some very good rugby.

Refs wonder why the get criticism.

Naki hit back with a very good try of their own.

Awful way to end the game for the Naki, an abominable call by the ref, an absolute howler ad they were heading for the try line.

Mind, booting the ball away when they needed to up the anti is really what cost them.

It was a ding ding battle in the end. 👍

With a tough draw to come, Canterbury are facing the very real threat of relegation.

We've got 2 points on Harbour, and 1 on BOP, with the following draws:

Canterbury:

Otago (H)
Tasman (A)
Auckland (H)

BOP:

Hawke's Bay (H)
Waikato (A)
Harbour (H)

Harbour:

Northland (A)
Counties (H)
BOP (A)

Makes the Otago game this weekend almost a must-win, as on form we'll struggle against Tasman and Auckland.

What a neat story
The King Country was named after Kingi Tawhiao, the second Māori king, who was granted refuge by Maniapoto during the New Zealand Wars.

He placed his hat on a map and the area underneath was defined as the King Country boundary. Te Rohe Potae means, the area of the hat.
Did not know that

It is a neat storey, isn't it.

I think I am correct when I say, you and I are both King Country lads, rather than Waikatoins by origin. Yes?

I want top explore more of the area up the west coast. Haven't been there since school holidays with the olds.

Can I apply for honorary King Country citizenship based on historical ties?
In 1966 King Country combined with near neighbours Wanganui to defeat the British Lions 12–6 in one of the biggest triumphs for rugby in the region.

Teams for tonight:

Canterbury: Josh McKay, Chay Fihaki, Dallas McLeod, Rameka Poihipi, Ngane Punivai, Fergus Burke, Mitchell Drummond, Reed Prinsep, Tom Christie, Billy Harmon, Luke Romano, Sam Darry, Oli Jager, Brodie McAlister, Daniel Lienert-Brown. Reserves: Finlay Brewis, Tamaiti Williams, Liam Allen, Whetukamokamo Douglas, Luke Donaldson, Brett Cameron, Andrew Knewstubb.

Otago: Vilimoni Koroi, Freedom Vahaakolo, Josh Timu, Sio Tomkinson, Jona Nareki, Josh Ioane, Kayne Hammington, Nasi Manu, Slade McDowall, Sam Fischli, Josh Dickson, Will Tucker, Josh Hohneck, Liam Coltman (c), Jamie Mackintosh. Reserves: Ricky Jackson, Jonah Aoina, Hisa Sasagi, Jack Regan, Sione Misiloi, James Arscott, Michael Collins, Charles Elton

This is basically must-win for Canterbury, with relegation a very real possibility if they lose.

On the plus side, that certainly looks like a better, more experienced Canterbury team than the one that got embarrassed last week. McKay is back in his best position, while McLeod, Punivai, Drummond, Romano, Jager, and McAlister return to the starting side. I'd still question the loose forward selections - Douglas should be starting over Harmon.

I guess he is looking for impact from the bench in Whetu Douglas but the team should be focusing more on playing decent rugby from the start than on what the bench might bring. I am glad Thorne is sticking iwth Burke at 10.

Canterbury butchered a couple of chances there. But Otago pressured the attack and it paid off.

Then they put in a 70 metre clearance and win a turnover and penalty. Worthy of points for that
