Word. It’s something different, feels like a holidayHal Jordan wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 1:51 pm We had enough to build a snow... mutant in the back garden, plus a snowball fight. Did more for my mental health than a month of therapy.
Had an unpleasant night shift last night, it was indeed fucking freezing, which doesn't help with the digging.
Absolutely! We took the girls out for a walk around the village and built a snowman. makes a huge difference!Hal Jordan wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 1:51 pm We had enough to build a snow... mutant in the back garden, plus a snowball fight. Did more for my mental health than a month of therapy.
Here the snow started again about 7ish so everything is covered againHal Jordan wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 8:55 pm Of course, the snow has started to melt and has been compacted down by tramping feet, so it's like glass out there now.

Youd be surprised, light front wheel drive cars can be the best at getting through snow.sturginho wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 11:12 am I spoke too soon, it's gotten heavy here too, luckily I don't have to drive anywhere. And this is the point really, all these weather warnings are fairly ridiculous and IMO counterproductive. It's winter and none of this is really out of the ordinaryvball wrote: Mon Jan 06, 2025 10:14 am Oh a little bit outside Inverness but it is winter time so nothing to write home about.
There seems to be a constant over egging of the severity as well. We were due to spend the weekend in Melrose but cancelled as there was 6 to 8 inches of snow forecast and in the end it was barely 2 to 3. Same just south of Edinburgh where we are. There is snow still lying from New Year but we barely had 2 inches yesterday when we were expecting 4 or 5. I appreciate they don't want to be downplaying things but you would hope they would've accurate enough to allow people to make informed plans.Slick wrote: Mon Jan 06, 2025 10:20 amAnd this is the point really, all these weather warnings are fairly ridiculous and IMO counterproductive. We're 500 yards from there - the weather was uncomfortable out but nothing wildly dangerous, although I'd not fancy being on the castle ramparts or tower in any sort of rain this time of year!Tichtheid wrote: Mon Jan 06, 2025 10:57 amBlackmac wrote: Mon Jan 06, 2025 10:26 amThere seems to be a constant over egging of the severity as well. We cancelled plans to go to Craigmillar Castle yesterday because the driving sleet was supposed to give way to torrential rain - it was a bit chilly with a few showers

The road that leads to the castle can be a bit iffy in cold weather if not well-gritted, we've had to stop and help push a few cars back up onto the main road to escape the ice. The weather's not been cold long enough to cause any problems though.
