The long awaited return of the great Crossword clue

Most of the cruciverbalists seem to be here rather than on PR.
This cracker from Saturday's Independent is one of the best clues I've seen in years:
Fathead! Soon deduce a timeless quality, unfortunately, that's shared by Johnson and his cohorts (8,2,8)
It's by Jim Toal (Vlad in the Guardian, Tyrus in the Independent) - I think that he is by far the best setter currently working in the UK papers. Saturday's puzzle was really hard but incredibly fairly clued, there wasn't a letter wasted in the clues or spare in the answers. To add to the fun it then had a Nina around the outer edge that referred to several of the clues - a masterpiece.

This is a really good crossword. Tough but very fair.

Tyrus/Vlad is one of my favourites too. I like the level of difficulty his puzzles have. Monk is fairly similar, and usually has a Nina.

A really neat one from Dean Mayer today, just to prove that it doesn't have to be fiendishly complicated to be good
"P" breaks for cool beast ----o

I am restricted by "The Managment" to two crosswords a day.
This is incredibly annoying. Need to cast my net further. Thanks fellas.

why?
P is the seventeenth letter of the Greek alphabet which is RHO. Cool = "IN"

Why do you need an indicator for a greek/latin/german/french etc letter or word? Can't remember ever being given one

My pleasure.
I suppose the "P" is in quotes. This sort of clue comes up occasionally. A decent knowledge of Greek and Latin is useful.
Plus cricket terms which confound Guli! Plus loads more. Been doing these for a long time. Usually met my match with AZed and Mephisto, especially when they had "printer's devilry".

P isn't Rho, it (I assume) is coincidentally the 17th letter of the greek Alphabet surely you need a nudge to use the Greek alphabet
