I am thinking that the T20 World Cup hangover, home conditions and 'bubble life' is going to mean this is a fairly one sided tour.
But at least Kohli will be able to get his batting average back on track.

I think this will be a case of checking Cricinfo every morning, shuddering, and moving on with my day

A promising innings peters out in the final 3 overs. Were on for 180+ and end up at 164/6
NZ with a longer then usual tail.

Yep. A disappointing end to our innings.

Although a much better hit out than I thought we'd manage considering the team was missing first teamers, coming down from the final and must be absolutely exhausted with all they have been through over the last few months.
That last three overs killed us though - but it was some tail we had going on.

It's going to be very annoying if/when Daryl Mitchell does literally nothing else in his career except dump England out of the T20 world cup

Another toss going the way of the home side.....cause India need all the luck when playing at home?!?

We cannot go to India with anything other than full strength.
Put this one down to experience - hopefully some of the newbies will learn something

You wont be saying this when we win the test series 2 - 0. I mean, who really gives a fuck about T20?

I came into this tour thinking that we'd be humped anyway.
Doesn't help when you are behind the 8 ball 2 t20's in a row due to losing the toss. But let's just let the Indians take this and give them some crumbs......they've had it hard over the last few seasons.

First test about to start, India won the toss (yes, again!!), and India to bat.

Jamieson bowling very well, barring the occasional no-ball, and Patel got spin from his first over.

So India win the toss in 3 T20's and now the Test.....such a pointless part of the modern game. Just let the visiting side choose what they want to do. It is hard enough touring another country - why hand even more advantage to the home side? Especially rubbishly predictable wickets like you get in the sub-continent. Might even get some of these countries to actually take preparing fair wickets seriously.
But anyway - OK start by NZ. India getting on top now. But good to see Jamieson bowling well. Southee must be exhausted!

Just 84 overs in a day when the spinners bowled 50+ overs. WTAF is going on - should have got in 100

Great start to the day by Southee -- Jadeja gone. Two maidens in a row and a wicket in the second over after losing a close review for lbw in the first over

I want to have Southee's kids. Shreyas is his fourth wicket and India 305/7

One of the most deserved 5-for in Southee's career. He must be totally knackered by now but still bowling so well.
8 overs, four wickets for 19 runs this morning.

Southee bowling his 10th over this morning. Give the lad a fucking rest!

Ajaz gets a wicket - 1 for 90 for him and the only spinner to get a wicket. (It actually spun but from a bowlers footmark)

And Ajaz gets a second.
All out 345 - that'll be enough for an innings win.

Yep. Think I heard one of the commentators say yesterday that the average first innings score here is 390, but the average score for the next 3 innings falls off a cliff.
Great effort by Southee and Jamieson, mind.

We will have to bat bloody well but that was a superb effort today. India would have been targeting in excess of 400
