Just had mine operated, suprisingly quick, in and out. Now i look like a dodgy pirate for a few weeks

Good luck with the recovery, hope it goes well. At my last examination I was told i had the first signs of cataracts so this maybe something I have to look forward to one day

Hope it goes well. About 8 of my elderly customers are awaiting the operation but have been told it's roughly a two and a half year wait up here. Two have already gone private and the others considering it.

Not age related this time, its due to a vitrectomy, the side effect is that it causes a cataract within 6 months.

Bigtime, as well as 2 tears on my retina.

I feel for you. My mum went through all of this..... and coughed during the vitrectomy procedure which resulted in significant eye damage.

My mum had one done in Dec last year - they put someone else's lens in and then had to fish it out when they discovered the error.
Haemorrhaging, torn retina, three months without a lens, cornea too damaged so cornea transplant and now a dry iris.
No sight in that eye yet.
21 visits to various hospitals.
And this was private in the UK.

Ouch.

You do not do such procedures in South African state hospitals - to here are excellent private hospitals (at a stiff price) for those.

Ironically, the best opthalmic surgeon I know works for the State, full time, and succeeds in referring needful state patients to private care (subsidised by the practitioners). A strange man, born-again Christian, but widely regarded as super brilliant by the private sector
Cataract procedures (both eyes) worked well on me - but the retinal detachments and subsequent macular degeneration cannot be helped. Que sera sera .
My wife had a cataract removed, new lens installed, worked well.
